Is your son or daughter losing confidence in achieving their desired grades or just wanting this subject area made more clear ? I'm sure we could work together to resolve their concerns.
My focus is entirely on enabling tutees to achieve the highest possible results in all English Literature qualifications and English Language (iGCSE and GCSE only) qualifications calmly and happily. Having been Head of English at an academically selective school, I am very familiar with preparing candidates for A level, GCSE and IGCSE examinations and, of course, I am up to speed with the changing demands of all the current syllabi of all of the Examination Boards. Sometimes - as a result of unequal teaching/ health/ confidence blips - some sessions earlier in school life can be the key to later success.
I am a Moderator and Examiner for A, AS level and IGCSE English Literature for three different Examination Boards so know exactly what the examiners want to see.
I am also adept at advising applicants on writing effective and engaging UCAS Personal Statements and have successfully prepared candidates for Oxbridge and other University interviews.

Tutoring Experience

I have acted as a Tutor focused specifically on English examinations with marked success, so that students invariably achieve higher grades in their final examinations than have been predicted by their current schools. Even quite last-minute support has paid dividends. Current tutees are achieving similar significant improvements in their Coursework, university and GCSE predicted grades and have been very successful in being offered and gaining their chosen university/ college places.
GCSE re-sits for those in need of that vital Grade 4 have become another important area of my work.
Sometimes, the occasional summer holiday session has helped to boost confidence and prepare tutees for their next academic year.

Tutoring Approach

I work with only five tutees to ensure that I can focus fully on each individual. Although I choose to spend most of my time on activities related to the study of English (work/ reading/ theatre/ film), I fully appreciate that for many people, acquiring the qualifications to give them access to the school/ Sixth Form/ University/ Career of their choice is the focus of their work. I also understand that - just as many subjects strike me as difficult - English can cause people anxiety and I am practised in helping to overcome this obstacle.
I am always realistic with assessments and keep everyone concerned up to speed with progress, providing half-termly reports with copies of my teaching records.
I am able to act as a Tutor during daytime hours, if required. I am happy to for us to work online or to drive to tutees (covid rules apart) but my travel range is 5 miles: I make a charge for travelling any further than this and also for setting and marking practice papers.
