I'm twenty four and have lived, worked and studied in the south Hampshire area my whole life. I love the area and intend on staying here for the foreseeable future! I'm currently studying Graduate Entry Medicine at the University of Southampton, where I have just completed a very enjoyable placement in Child Health at Queen Alexandra Hospital. Before starting my studies in Medicine, I completed my BSc. (Hons) Human Physiology at the University of Portsmouth in 2015. I attended Hamble Community Sports College, achieving 14 GCSEs at grade A and A* - top of my year - and Peter Symonds College, studying Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Critical Thinking and General Studies. My Mathematics and Statistics GCSE (taken a year early) were the highest the school had ever achieved, both gaining an A* (99.5% and 100% respectively).
My experience of tutoring students from ages 7 to 18, and adult education, has taught me the best ways to motivate and to connect with students; not only those who struggle to grasp topics and method, but also those who have lost confidence in themselves.
I began to tutor fellow students whilst sitting my own GCSEs and A levels for Maths and Statistics, and have since tutored at all levels from KS1 to A level. I've also worked with students with educational needs such as dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia, and I always encourage students to use these as motivation, rather than to think of them as hurdles! I've helped to improve confidence in all of my students, and try instil the knowledge that any question can be approached and understood.
As a tutor with wide and varied experience, I know that it is important for students to feel comfortable and confident, and I always encourage my students to apply their own knowledge to questions before adding new information. My supportive style is focused on being calm, patient and methodical, and I encourage students to take care and thought over each question, but that they should know that wrong answers allow them to learn. I always ensure that not only does the student have core, and advanced knowledge, but that they have confidence in the fact that anything can be achieved! I believe that learning on a one-to-one basis is fundamentally based on time and practice, and with the right approach and focus, any student can reach their goals.
