I am a full time teacher ( Head of Department, Edexcel, AQA - moderator and examiner ) living in County Durham. I work in an Academy that has been graded level 1 Outstanding. I have worked as a teacher for over 17 years. Prior to my teaching employment I ran and managed a chain of Theatre schools. I enjoy working as a tutor and am able to travel week nights and weekends.

I like to start all English work with a short reading and writing test (especially with ks2 and ks3 pupils), this enables me to evaluate strengths and weaknesses.
Then I can create a personalised plan for your sessions. All sessions are enjoyable and challenging.

I have lectured Theatre for BA degree courses at several higher education establishments including Drama schools and have recently worked with young adults preparing audition pieces for Drama schools.

Tutoring Experience

I graduated from Manchester University in 1999. I then furthered my studies, trained as a teacher, at Durham University (PGCE). I am currently employed as an English and Drama teacher; I am subject leader in my Department. I have managed to consistently receive grade 1 in all my lesson observations and Department observations. As a tutor I find myself having to be very flexible and have a very good grasp of all the major examination syllabus's taught in the region for both GCSE English Language and Literature ( Edexcel WJEC, AQA, IGCSE).

I have managed several Theatre schools and taught both LAMDA and Trinity examinations.

I am also currently working as an examiner and moderator for Edexcel and AQA, therefore I know my subjects and curriculum as well as anyone you will find! As all employed teachers I have a full CRB check and always carry my photo ID with CRB when working.

Tutoring Approach

I believe tutoring 1-1 enables students to have precise focus on any issues. A good tutor can raise achievement in a well-structured manner to reach and exceed targeted grades. Planning and preparation is a key to success from both student and tutor. I think it advisable to have ( if school allow and if possible) school exercise books at hand. I will be able to see what part of the curriculum has been covered and where any help is needed.

I have recently taught several pupils, that live some distance from me, through Skype and online tutoring. This is an option for you and I find it very beneficial, especially if distance is an issue!

please note: Due to travel expenses (fuel costs and time) - if travel is over 10 miles there is a £5 travel charge, unless I have other tutoring sessions in the area. Please ask for further details
