Government and Politics
I'm currently a History and Politics Teacher at Solihull School. Before this job I worked in politics and journalism as well as private tuition.
I graduated from Queen Mary, University of London with First Class Honours in History. I then won a prestigious Mile End Group scholarship to return and complete a Masters in Modern and Contemporary History. I was awarded a Distinction for my Masters.
I was previously a student at Marlborough College in Wiltshire, and left with A Star grades in History, Politics, and Pre-U English (a new, more rigorous qualification equivalent to an A-level).
I have worked in the House of Commons for a prominent backbench MP and spent July 2014 - May 2015 working for a Prospective Parliamentary Candidate who was elected to the House of Commons with a 10,000 majority.
In my spare time I enjoy politics, reading, writing, travelling, cricket and cooking.
I am available for tuition either at weekends or in school holidays.
I am currently a history and politics teacher at Solihull School, West Midlands.
I have extensive private tutoring experience from GCSE- undergraduate level in History, Politics, and English Literature, and have worked as an Examiner for AS History.
I previously taught at Scholani Education Collage in Sydney, Australia in **Telephone Number Removed** and at the Marlborough College International Summer School for three years.
I have attended a number of INSET days and have experience of teaching the syllabae of various exam boards including AQA, OCR and Edexcel.
I specialise in 19th and 20th century history: specifically the Cold War (in Europe, America, and Asia), 20th century Germany, 19th & 20th century Russia, 19th & 20th century Britain, 20th century India, the British Empire, Colonisation & Decolonisation, and 19th & 20th Century America.
I also teach British politics and have previously taught both international politics (terrorism, changing nature of warfare, environmentalism etc.) and American politics.
I have kept meticulous records of my own work from GCSEs, AS, A-level and during my degree. My approach to tutoring is to share best practice, including by providing hand-outs of my own work from the time. I encourage my students to nail the basics first, before exploring less conventional viewpoints. With written work, I emphasise flair and style alongside watertight arguments using a variety of techniques which I have learnt from my experience in national-level debating competitions, and also from my degree.
Finally, I am a rigorous marker and will always strive to return marked work quickly, with extensive and constructive feedback.
NB I am only available for tuition either at weekends or in school holidays.
