I am a recently retired primary school Headteacher with experience as head of 3 different Primary schools, 2 of which were in East Sussex. Whilst maintaining some school inspections I wish to continue working with pupils and using my teaching skills that have been acquired over many years. My preference, and experience is to teach reading, spelling and writing to young children aged 5-9 who are having difficulty in the early stages of accessing English skills.
I have been a teacher in Primary school for over 20 years and have taught all year groups from Reception to Year 6. I have a Masters Degree in Special Educational Needs and practical experience of helping young pupils overcome their difficulties in learning and acquiring reading and spelling.
Lessons for these young children will be 45 minutes long ( and fees adjusted accordingly). I would be willing to have 2 or 3 children in the same group if of similar ability at reduced costs to the parents. I teach in my own home where I have all resources available. I use a multisensory approach to learning which is essential for pupils if they are having problems. I include the loan of a main reading scheme in the fee as well as other resources required such as phonics games. I would expect a minimum of homework during the week such as word flash cards, spellings, reading and playing set games. Children need repetition but also a fun way to learn
I am very happy to take on pupils for the school holidays only and can supply with high frequency words books, games and a storybag - ideal for KS1 children just learning to read and need to keep up their learning so they don't forget by September!
