PAL (Peer-assisted learning) at the University of Exeter - 18 months - In my 2nd and 3rd years at university, I helped 1st-year students understand and complete formative coursework in modules I had achieved highly in.
Tutoring Approach
Get to know the student and tell them about me, so they feel relaxed and comfortable.
Identify the areas of mathematics that they need to work on by completing past papers and practice questions.
Determine which approach will be most beneficial for the student - e.g. explanations of theory, practice questions, or visualisations.
Plan and execute tailor-made lessons utilising the approaches found to be most effective for the student.
Keep sessions engaging and fun. I use an interactive whiteboard as well as drawings to help students visualise maths problems (please see example notes I uploaded - they are from an iPad, so the format on a laptop screen/phone may be different).
I will provide (if necessary) concise, simple notes to summarise each topic covered for the student to use for future revision and learning.
I am also happy to answer any additional out-of-session questions and last-minute pre-exam queries. Depending on the time commitment this may incur a small additional fee.
Since this is my primary source of income - On the day cancellations still require full payment.
