Tutoring Experience

I am a current teacher and have considerable experience of marking National 5 and Higher across Scotland, which means that I know exactly where marks are gained and lost.
I believe in being at the cutting edge of teaching and learning and continue to develop my own knowledge and skills. I am currently completing a PhD at Edinburgh Napier University and have a Masters Degree in Education.
I have professional experience of planning for the changes and developments in the curriculum meaning that I am able to provide insights into the SQA courses that not all classroom teachers can.
I have taught and tutored all the most commonly chosen Scottish set texts and the majority of texts used in Scottish classrooms for the critical essay.

I was the head of a learning support team for five years meaning I am an expert in supporting pupils with additional support needs.

Tutoring Approach

My approach starts with the individual who I am supporting. I believe that to get the best out of a learner, a collaborative approach is required. In a practical sense, this means that I will work with the learner/their parent/carer to develop a personalised learning programme that best suits their needs.

Assessment underpins all of my approaches. By being clear about what the areas of strength and development for learners are, I am able to ensure that progress is tracked and responded to appropriately. The programme created for your child will have them at the heart of it.

All sessions will take place online using your preferred method e.g. Zoom/Skype/FaceTime etc.

In addition to this, I offer online group sessions which can enhance a learner's development even further. These sessions last 1 hour 20 minutes and are inclusive of a tailored workshop which combines rigorous instruction and activity, as well as ongoing personalised contact, feedback and a wealth of resources to deepen learning. This is a unique and innovative way to help better embed learning and is a direct result of multiple requests from parents, carers and learners over the past two years.
