Private Online Spanish Tuition

I am a Spanish teacher with a passion for teaching my native tongue. I am originally from Spain, although have lived overseas for the past 10 years. I moved to England in 2011 to improve my English and despite my mothers best advice ended up marrying an Englishman and moving with him to Kenya in 2016. My first career was as a travel agent, but I retrained as a Spanish teacher when we moved to Kenya. I have just moved back to the UK due to my husband's work. career to become a teacher has been my best decision to date. I feel like I've truly found what I'm good at and what I enjoy.

Tutoring Experience

Upon moving to Kenya, I completed a masters in 'How to teach Spanish as a foreign language' and started my new career as a Spanish teacher, first building up a network of private tutees ranging from employees of the Red Cross to the Hungarian ambassador, before finding work in some of Kenya's top international schools.
I have over 5 years of teaching experience at leading international schools. Most recently I was the IB and IGCSE Spanish teacher at Braeburn Garden Estate (BGE) in Kenya where my students received outstanding results with over 70% of my IGCSE class receiving A* and all of my IB class receiving one grade higher than predicted at the start of the course. I was the Year 11 form tutor and was rated as an ‘outstanding’ performer during external inspections.
Prior to BGE, I was the Spanish teacher at Kenton College – Kenya’s leading prep school where I prepared children for the Common Entrance examinations. I also held supply teaching positions at the International School of Kenya (ISK) and the Lycee Francais in Nairobi, as well as developing a diverse private tutoring base. I was the secretary of the Spanish Teachers Association of Kenya and the DELE official examiner for the Spanish embassy in Nairobi.

Tutoring Approach

I like to take time to get to know my new students, understand their individual needs and create a positive atmosphere where they feel empowered to take risks with their learning.
I am also very organised, keep meticulous notes and lesson plans and make sure that the lesson objectives are clear at the start of each lesson. I am a very enthusiastic and passionate teacher – I love teaching my native tongue and helping students discover Spanish language culture. I also like to integrate the latest technology into my lessons through interactive presentations, videos and online games. I love to get creative. This all helps to create an environment where the students are engaged and enjoying the class rather than just seeing it as ‘work’. After all, learning a language is about expanding one’s life horizons.
