GCSE and A Level English Literature/Language tutoring.
Personal Statement coaching.
University interview coaching.

I am a 33 year old, hard working, experienced tutor. I have BA(Hons) in English Literature and Theatre Studies from Warwick University, and have 2 Master's degrees (both high distinction) from Manchester University and Warwick University. I now live in the Coventry area, and am currently a PhD student at Warwick University and teach undergraduates whilst completing my own research.

I have been teaching for over 10 years, and have an exceptional track record. I am an award winning teacher at Warwick University, having won the Warwick Award for Teaching Excellence (WATE) in 2022, and recently been nominated again in 2024.

My standard rate is £75p/h. My price reflects my expertise and level of teaching, but I do not want this to be a barrier to those who need teaching and guidance.

I also offer Personal Statement packages for £200. I have worked for several years as a university admission tutor at a Russell Group university, and have expertise in drafting and helping to write personal statements for students. Please contact me with any further questions.

If this fee is difficult, for whatever reason, please ask and we can discuss potential different options if you are genuinely struggling. I have a few tutoring slots at heavily reduced prices for those who need it, and feel free to message me for an honest and frank conversation about needs. As someone who would have struggled to afford a tutor when I was studying in secondary school, I approach this with an open, unjudgmental, and empathetic frame of mind.

Lessons can be any time, for any length, subject to discussion. I tutor at my home or online, and parents and guardians are welcome to stay and quietly watch any sessions I run.

I have a 100% retention rate for my students, and every student I have worked with have either maintained their high grades (those working around levels 7-9) or increased their grades (those working grade 6 and below).

Tutoring Experience

I have tutored students at A-level and GCSE, including students with special educational needs (SEN). I have worked with students on university applications, and have worked in university administration and admissions, so am familiar with the application process from both the student and the university perspective. I have worked as an undergraduate secretary and admissions officer for students applying to Warwick University, frequently overseeing applications (including reading personal statements) from beginning to end.

I have taught both the old and new exam styles, and covered multiple different exam boards. Many of my students performed exceptionally well in their GCSE and A-Level exams. My most recent intake of students (22/23), everyone achieved their required/expected grade, and all rose at least 2 grades from when they joined.

Tutoring Approach

I take a very personalised approach to teaching, adjusting my methods to suit each student. I firmly believe that each student is different, and the same methods will not work for all. My own experiences with tutoring have shaped how I tend to believe that young people learn. Working to get the best out of each student is how I choose to work, and each person's strengths ultimately pay off in regards to their grades.

My sessions are often relaxed, informal, and encourage wider thinking on the topic that gives my students the opportunity to find their own 'voice' -- often empowering students to take the initiative and want to sit their exams, rather than have to sit them.

For the first lesson, I discount the cost of the finder's fee from First Tutors (approx 65%).
