Hey there! Feedback from students at the end of the tutoring process can be found below!
A brief introduction. I believe that my job as a tutor is to:
I often work with students who have the ability (we all do!) but have either been neglected in their large class size or have lost confidence in English due to poor grades and lack of individual guidance. Confidence plays a massive part in being able to be successful during the exam period and that is something I always instil in my pupils. I see myself as an exam coach, mentor, and older brother; personable, trustworthy and knowledgeable. My students are so important to me - I only take on about 5-7 students a year and I do whatever it takes to not only get them the grades that they want/need but to exceed what they believe they are capable of. I'm really excited to share the results of my 2018 and 2017 students below. They all worked so hard and their improvement was astronomical.
I have worked with students from the following schools:
Bedford Modern, Bedford Boys, Mark Rutherford, Bedford Free School, Samuel Whitbread, Sharnbrook Academy, Wooton Upper, Bedford Free School and Lincroft
I have a full enhanced DBS for my teaching.
*** 2018 Feedback is in! 2017 below that! ***
In total I worked with 6 students, most starting with 3's in their mocks and no one got lower than a 5!
"My teenage 15 year old son just didn’t like English literature . The books didn’t interest him and poems – well , say no more . With a very low end of year exam result we enlisted the help of Nick at the beginning of the next school year . All I can say is that the transition is incredible . My son , over the first few months with Nick actually came to understand and dare I say enjoy the subject. For my son it wasn’t however just about the English . His confidence grew in writing longer answers to questions which has now paid dividends in all of his other subjects . His general confidence in himself has also grown throughout the process . Now that we are at the end of the GCSE papers I had a son who after each and every paper messaged me a smiley face and that to me is priceless."
"Nick is a charismatic tutor and a tutor who is on their level , he understands that boys and love poems generally don’t go well together but he finds a way to make it engaging. If you're looking for help for your child then I would fully recommend Nick . My only suggestion would be that you don’t leave it to the last minute and try and give Nick as much time as possible to work with your child."
'Nick has been great tutor. He helped my son develop his confidence as well as the skills needed to understand the GSCE English curriculum. He went into his exams confident and ready due to the focused work Nick did with him. He was encouraging as well as very knowledgeable. I have definitely got him booked in to help my daughter through her GCSE's when the times comes.' Highly recommended-someone who I have already recommended to my friends.'
"Hi Nick just thought i'd drop you a note and i'm sure i'm one of 100s you've had. Milan got a 6 in Lang and a 5 in Literature. We/he are chuffed to bits and cannot thank you enough"
"5 in language, A in lit !!!!! Well done that man!!"
"Hi nick Dan got a 5 in Lang and 6 in lit!! Thanks for all your help"
"Beth got 6 in Language and 5 in Literature, so thank you so much for all your hard work"
"Lucas got 4s for all his subjects apart from English. 5 for Lang and 6 for Lit. We are extremely grateful for all you did with him. He is very happy with his English results. Just shows what a good teacher can do!"
Please see feedback from my class of 2017 English GCSE students and their parents:
In total 7 students worked with me most going from 3's previously to 5's and above after working with me.
"Well Ali smashed English, from a 3 to a 5 on both papers with your help can't thank you enough! THANK YOU from a happy mum!"
"Luke felt he learnt better exam techniques from Nick that was not offered at school. Luke also gained confidence. Nicks passion for English was obvious and this helped encourage luke. He thoroughly enjoyed his lessons.
Luke was not particularly struggling in English but wanted to improve his grades, he was a little worried that having a tutor was for those that struggled. Nick quickly assessed Luke and the lessons were very well prepared for his needs.
We would recommend Nick without a doubt - we only wish we had found him sooner. We hope that he is still tutoring when it's my youngest turn!
Luke got a 7 in literature and a 5 in language. He is very pleased with his 7. A in English is something he never thought possible. Thank you again for everything."
"Emmie got 5 in both her English exams. So she's over the moon and off to insert day tomorrow at the college in London. Hope you've had a lovely summer and will recommend you to anyone I come across who needs an English tutor. Thanks again for all your help."
"Thank you so much for everything that you did to help Tom, without you he would not have got into 6th form. They say one mark off a five in literature so it is going for a remark!"
"Thomas got a 5. He would not have done that without your help for which we're very grateful."
"Nick taught me valuable skills for my exams, this gave me the ability to approach questions in a more structured and focused manner. Nick also gave me techniques in remembering quotes from text and showing me how to go into more detail to maximise my marks.
I was really worried that I would not achieve the grades to move onto 6th form, as English is not my strongest subject. I had to achieve a grade 4 or above, which I am really happy to say that I got, and most definitely this was through Nicks guidance and support.
I highly recommend Nick, without him I think I would have failed my English GCSE. I enjoyed the sessions with Nick, he made them interesting."
Thank you for looking at my profile - I hope to hear from you soon! :)
I have been a private tutor since 2011 and this is my 3rd academic year on First Tutors! I am the Head of Department and teach at degree level at a college in Bedford affiliated with the University of Northampton. I am also a lead teacher at 2 academies in Cambridgeshire.
I'm young and enthusiastic and have a very relaxed and fun approach to getting the work done.
Each student gets their own personal folder which we work through together, at their pace, and we cover every single detail of the exams; literature and language. Everyone gets access to my huge database of new practise papers and documents to help with learning, I am a totally obsessed in creating and collecting these and have amassed:
865 (and counting) documents for EDEXCEL, AQA students, CAMBRIDGE IGCSE and EDUQAS!
