Natasha

Hello. I am a qualified English teacher with 23 years of experience in primary, secondary, and further education.

I have been a successful full-time private tutor since 2021, providing comprehensive educational support to a diverse range of students. Throughout my tenure, I have tutored and mentored over 60 students, each with unique learning needs and goals.

I provide high-quality individual and small group tutoring for children, young people and adults who need help with English and would like to improve their confidence in their abilities. I offer comprehensive learning support to students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) who find coping in a school or college environment challenging and may need additional support in the following areas:

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), delayed learning development (DLD), global developmental delay (GLD), sensory processing disorder (SPD), language delay, speech and language difficulties (Sp&LD), dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia, focus and concentration difficulties, and other special educational needs.

I also support students in managing anxiety.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in Further Education (FE):
I provide individual and small group support and teach English, maths, and practical life skills to students aged 16 to 26 with mild-to-moderate additional and special educational needs and disabilities. Lessons take place in schools and colleges or in the students' homes.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in Primary and Secondary Education (KS1 to KS4):
I provide individual and small-group support. I prepare resources, develop and adapt conventional teaching methods to meet student's individual needs and collaborate with the classroom teacher to define appropriate activities for students in relation to the curriculum. Lessons occur at school or in the student’s home, and I work closely with parents, carers, and guardians.

Primary (KS1 & KS2):
I tutor mixed-ability pupils individually or in small groups to support and develop their learning. I work closely with my pupils using a variety of teaching methods. Developing individual structured lesson plans and resources tailored to pupils' needs and learning styles enables me to determine their strengths and weaknesses and how they learn best. Upon request, I will provide post-lesson written or verbal feedback to parents about their child’s lesson progress.

Secondary (KS3 & KS4) GCSE English Language and Literature:
I am experienced in supporting students with English from Year 7 to Year 11. I offer tailored personal tutoring to prepare students for literature and language GCSEs. I am familiar with the AQA, Edexcel and OCR exam boards.

I provide tuition for:
• exam preparation, revision and study skills
• promoting a deeper understanding of course materials
• revising past papers
• GCSE retakes
• building confidence with exams
• school interview preparation

11 Plus English Exam:
I have successfully prepared Year 6 pupils for their 11 Plus English exams towards their target schools. My tuition covers Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. This is a challenging time for children where they can feel apprehensive about their 11 Plus exams. Along with supporting pupils academically, being mindful of their emotional well-being and helping them feel calm and collected in readiness for their exams are part and parcel of my tutoring process. I am familiar with the formats of the following exam boards: CEM, GL, ISEB, and Bond.

English as a Foreign Language (EFL):
I help non-native speakers of all ages and levels learn the formal grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation of spoken and written English while giving them confidence in the common usage of the language so that they can communicate clearly and comfortably with native English speakers.

Functional Skills English (EL1 to Level 2):
Includes planning and delivering high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment. My students' success rates were consistently above the national average pass rates, and OFSTED commended me on the high quality of my teaching, assessments, and resources.

Speaking, Listening and Communication:
As an experienced speaking, listening, and communication tutor, I have achieved fantastic success with some of the most nervous and anxious individuals who were convinced that they would never be able to speak publicly. It is wonderful to watch my students’ confidence grow and flourish as we work together.

Online Tutoring
I am experienced in delivering online lessons on Zoom and Microsoft Teams. I have successfully tutored Year 6 pupils preparing for 11+ English exams and international students for UK boarding school interviews and exams. I am presently tutoring Year 11 students preparing for English Language and Literature GCSEs.

Tutoring Approach

I have a calm, patient and encouraging approach. Listening and reflecting are very important for developing a good rapport, so I am always keen to get to know what my students are interested in, what motivates them and what is meaningful to them. I am personable and friendly, which helps build a trusting relationship with my students.

My tutoring sessions are designed to be engaging, stimulating, enjoyable, and focused on progress. Being approachable and nonjudgmental opens the lines of communication and creates a platform for my students to confidently ask questions and share with me how they feel they are progressing. I provide constructive feedback to students in a way that improves their confidence in their abilities.

Using flexible and creative lesson planning, I tailor my lessons to meet individual learning requirements. For example, breaking down a task into smaller, achievable steps makes it more easily understood and mentally manageable. I will set regular tasks and activities to ensure a full understanding of what we are learning.

I will identify strengths and areas for improvement and create strategies and goals appropriate for my student's learning needs. I am usually able to evaluate these needs within the first session. I also liaise with teachers and schools to identify areas for improvement, monitor progress, and actively seek new teaching methods where required.

Professional and organised with an excellent knowledge of my subject area, I stay current with the ever-changing Key Stage curriculum and exam requirements.

I have a ‘can do’ attitude and communicate positive expectations by showing my students that I believe they can do well and achieve through my unwavering encouragement and enthusiasm. I take great pride in championing my students. Positive reinforcement helps them acknowledge their skills and strengths and enhances their understanding and enjoyment of learning.

My students' success is my number one priority. I aim to provide the right support so they can progress to the best of their ability. In a nutshell, I love teaching and helping people learn.
