English and English (Foreign Language) Teacher in Bath

I am an English Language GCSE examiner and an English language and literature teacher with over 12 years experience. As a fully qualified English teacher - PGCE Secondary English and QTS status - I am in a good position to support students with my knowledge and experience of the curriculum at KS3 and KS4. As a GCSE examiner (English language), I believe I am able to pass on my experience and knowledge of the exam system to help benefit students in preparation for their exams.
I have worked in a wide range of educational settings including private schools, a number of state secondary schools and an academically successful grammar school.

Tutoring Experience

I have worked as an English teacher in secondary schools for over 12 years. I have taught the majority of the literature texts for GCSE and I am familiar with the poetry anthologies used by the various exam boards. I regularly work with AQA, Eduqas and IGCSE exam boards.
Working as a private tutor for over 12 years has been a great experience; I am always delighted when students are able to develop their confidence and improve their grades. I have been satisfied to notice that many of my students have improved their English results by two or more exam grades following 1:1 tuition.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring centres around my belief that English is a subject that requires the ability to explore and expand on personal responses. Hence, students should feel involved and confident in the tutoring sessions to enable them to explore their ideas. I encourage students to believe that they have worthwhile, interesting and insightful contributions to make.
I often work on exam skills practice as I believe this to be the most beneficial approach for students in KS4. It is important that students understand the wording of questions, how to structure written responses and what examiners are looking for; through practice, students can build confidence and skills for their exams.
I also work with younger students in KS3 to support them with schoolwork and to build confidence and enjoyment.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is seeing students develop their confidence and improve their grades.

I have a set of T&Cs that I will send to you if you decide to go ahead. These cover cancellations and expectations of the agreement. Please note my lessons are online via zoom or Skype. I can accommodate face to face tuition at my home for students living locally.
