Michaela

Having taught for 14 years in London schools and 2 years overseas in a British independent school I have experience of working with students aged 11-18 and also have a clear understanding of the methods needed to raise attainment. I also have children of my own one of whom is primary school aged so in addition I also have knowledge of the primary curriculum.
I have devised a number of learning resources aimed at raising attainment and have used these to great success within my classes and year group. I have consistently taught classes at GCE and GCSE level that have achieved high numbers of A*-C grades in both English and Media

Tutoring Experience

I have been a qualified English and Media studies teacher for seventeen years. During this time I have held the post of Head of Media for a number of years and also was Head of English for a one year period. I have also been Head of year for 5 years in a large London secondary school; where I was responsible for the pastoral and academic guidance of 210 students.

I have just returned to the UK following a two year post as Assistant Headteacher in a private British school in China. I currently teach GCE Media and GCSE English and Media. During my teaching experience I have taught OCR and AQA specifications for Media studies and Edexcel, AQA CIE and Welsh board for English

Tutoring Approach

All students need will be asked to complete baseline tests in order to establish their current levels/grades. For GCSE/GCE students this will be based around their current exam syllabus.
Once the basic level is established a mixture of shared (Student/Tutor) exam prep/teaching and tutor led teaching is used, although all students are encouraged to develop independant learning skills.
Regular assessments are undertaken and promptly marked and feedback to students so their progress is constantly being monitored and reviewed.
Please not for students requiring intensive exam preparation an individual learning plan will be devised with the student
