Megan

My name is Megan and I’m currently a masters student at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. Before that I was at Durham University, where I recently completed my undergraduate degree in history. While the majority of my education has been focused on history and art history, I have a range of expertise and interests and would be happy to help students in whatever subject they need! In particular I have a huge interest in languages. While I am from the United States, I grew up in Switzerland and am fluent in French, and conversational in German. I’m even taking some Latin classes throughout my current masters degree, so the struggles of immersing yourself in a new language is something I am very familiary with.

Tutoring Experience

For the past several months, my official tutoring experience has mostly been focused on art history and essay writing. Beyond this, though, I have done lots of tutoring in an unofficial capacity, helping out friends mostly in French and History. However, I do have a lot of experience working with children from my previous work as a ski instructor. More specifically, I taught kids with mental and physical disabilities how to ski, and as a result I have lots of experience working with kids with all different abilities and challenges to learn and develop new skills. This experience really sparked my passion for teaching, and now I’m dedicated to helping students achieve their goals.

Tutoring Approach

I am a friendly and patient tutor who brings a lot of passion to my lessons. I am sensitive to the needs of others and strive to tailor sessions using a collaborative approach where I work closely together with the student on tasks. Doing this allows me to assess student’s needs and accommodate them as best as possible. Overall, I am relaxed and enthusiastic when tutoring and aim to build confidence, as well as increase the knowledge and understanding of my students.
