Megan

Hello! My name is Megan and I have lived in the central belt of Scotland all my life. I moved to Glasgow when I was 18 to complete my undergraduate degree in Chemistry, before going on to gain a masters degree during 2020-2021. Currently I am working as an Industrial PhD student, which means I am carrying out scientific research on behalf of a company, whilst also gaining a PhD from Heriot-Watt University, which I expect to complete in 2025. Aside from work I like to spend time hiking, kayaking and enjoying the Scottish countryside!

Tutoring Experience

I have experience tutoring students online during the pandemic at both national 5 and higher level and have developed many techniques to ensure a student receives the same level of connection by engaging with online learning platforms during my sessions. I also believe my many years at university has taught me a broad range of skills and different ways of approaching the same problems and I would love to pass this information on to other students. I also have studied a range of subjects throughout university, covering chemistry, biology, physics and maths, meaning I would be happy and able to assist students with their learning across many STEM subjects.
Would also like to note, I am living in Glasgow but regularly working in Edinburgh, so I could take students from all across the central belt. I also have experience tutoring students with additional learning requirements.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching approach aims to ensure the student fully understands the ‘why’ behind the answer, and not just the mechanisms / equations to get the answer, as I think this is an important skill that can be taken forward to university level across all STEM disciplines.
