I am a patient and friendly mathematical physicist who wants to help people understand physics and maths. Having struggled through school with dyslexia I have an empathy for the difficulties that students can encounter and the overlooked potential that they might have. I went on to receive a PhD in mathematical physics.
I have experience teaching GCSE, A-level and University (undergraduate and masters) students of varying ability.
I appreciate the importance of explaining complicated ideas in a unique way to individual tutees, and this is one of my strengths. It is important for a teacher to have an very clear understanding of a subject, for this is key in communicating ideas to others in a way that is clear to them.
I aim to develop the tutee's general understanding of the subject and how all the parts fit together. In particular, I shall aim to reveal the most important parts of the subject from which other parts will appear more obvious. This will improve both the development of the tutee's logic and their confidence in the subject as a whole.
I tend to begin by presenting the tutee with some general questions covering a broad range of topics. The purpose of this is for me to build up an idea of the tutee's general approach to solving problems and to shed light on their strengths and weaknesses. Lesson structure will then consist of informal discussions of mathematical and/or physical principles in conjunction with working through both general and specific problems.
