Matthew

Private Maths and English Tutor in Edgware

Hello!
I am a graduate from Queen Mary University of London, where I studied French and Maths with Spanish. My pupils do much better than the predicted grades they are given. I am very strong at Maths, French, Spanish and Italian. My tuition generally covers up to A Level standard.
My ability to teach typical problem areas in my subjects is unsurpassed including irregular verbs which also have their patterns, unlikely to be taught by anyone else. My Arithmetic and Algebra teaching, for example, are said to be exceptional.
Whether you are studying for an exam or not, my approach will be tailored to your individual needs with good communication from you about how you most effectively learn.
I spent a year at the Université du Littoral in France as part of my degree.
From the second lesson onwards, there will be a £5 per hour discount for purchasing 3 lessons in advance.

Tutoring Experience

Over 18 years tutoring experience with excellent results and improvements. I have extensive experience tutoring for any school including UCS in Hampstead, Francis Holland in Regents Park and Loreto School in Saint Albans. The headmistress of Loreto School is one of my referees too. Here are just some of my verifiable testimonials:

Alex

"Matthew is a great tutor. While I was doing my International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), I was really struggling to meet the high requirements from our Maths teachers. I especially had large gaps in Algebra, which Matthew helped me fill in. Once that was fixed, I went from strength to strength. Matthew helped me advance from a predicted grade of 3 to an actual grade of 6 in Maths (7 is the highest), in just 5 months. I have got into Bath University. Overall, I am very thankful to Matthew for all the time and effort he put into tutoring me."

Alan B

"Matthew tutored my son James in French from Christmas 2010 until May 2011. He only achieved just under 50% in his French mock exam but went on to achieve an A grade in his final French International GCSE examination with only 5 months of his tuition. Matthew as well as revising the grammar in detail with James set past papers in his lessons under exam conditions to improve his standard. We are therefore very happy to recommend Matthew to any other parents wanting tuition as he pays great attention to detail in both his explanations and spotting mistakes in a way and to a degree not seen by many tutors."

Dawn H

"I was searching for a Spanish tutor for my daughter who was predicted an E grade at GCSE and found Matthew’s details on a website. From the very beginning Matthew was professional and helpful and willing to go the extra mile (which was very helpful as my daughter was not keen on the subject at all but needed an improved grade). With Matthew’s help, my daughter gained a B grade which is more than we had hoped for! Matthew is an excellent tutor and I would highly recommend him!"

Tutoring Approach

I work from the basics upwards to make sure there is a good foundation, otherwise everything else is severely affected. You are very likely to find that my approach is very methodical. There will be plenty of expert help in the key problem areas too, making it all far more enjoyable too, such as Speaking, Essay Writing, Grammar, (Mental) Arithmetic and Algebra.
Everything I do will be tailored to the individual's needs and speed at which they master the topics and concepts.
