Hi, I'm Matthew and I am a 33 year old qualified teacher, living in Liverpool city centre. I moved to Liverpool from Northern Ireland in 2009 and have lived here since. I am an avid reader and tennis player.
I qualified as a teacher in 2015 and have worked in primary schools since then. I was employed by a large, successful catholic primary school in Wirral for six of those years. There, I taught in KS2 across all four year groups. Two of those years I was a Y6 class teacher so I am very experienced with SATs preparation and ensuring children are ready for secondary school. My strengths lie in the core subjects of English and maths.
I believe that every child deserves the right to reach their full potential. I expect the best of the pupils in my class, whilst knowing that each of them is different and have different strengths and weaknesses. I am a firm believer that if you don't read for pleasure, it just means that you haven't found the books you like to read yet. I also don't agree with the common view that maths is "just too hard". I feel that every person can access the required level of maths competency and may not have done this due to any number of mitigating factors. Usually, children will finally say "Oh! It wasn't as hard as it looked" and I try to enforce this message - it may 'look' hard but if we work together, you will improve and understand. Practice makes progress (never 'perfect').
