Hi, I'm Mary!
I'm a Leeds-based tutor with professional training in both tutoring and teaching assistantship.
I'm currently a final year student of Classical Literature and French at the University of Leeds.
Prior to this, I studied a semester at King's College London in Classics and French.
I received AAB at A Level in English Language, English Literature and French, and I earned full marks in both of my English coursework pieces.
I now have over three years experience as a freelance tutor in Maths, English, French and Classics.
I also have experience as a trained tutor with the tuition company Explore Learning.
I have just completed a year working as a English language assistant in two primary schools in France, for which I have also completed professional training.
I also currently hold an international DBS certificate (ICPC).
2014: I began as a freelance tutor while studying in London
I set up work independently, used my own resources and travelled across the city from client to client.
2015: I then became a member of the Explore Learning Tuition team at the Sheffield centre in 2015.
Here, I gained full training and experience in tutoring 4-16 year olds in Maths and English.
My job involved tutoring up to 6 children at a time and working with children with various needs.
2015-2017: I continued freelance tutoring in Sheffield, and then in Leeds once I moved to study in September 2015.
2016: As part of my degree in 2016, I was an assistant in a Primary school in Leeds, primarily as a French assistant,
but I also assisted in Maths, English, Geography, History and Art lessons.
2017-2018: I was an English language assistant in a Primary school in Vendée, France.
I received extensive training, in a foreign language, and experience working with all Primary school ages.
I was also expected to prepare and create my own material for lessons, which I occasionally led alone.
During the first lesson, I will spend some time getting to know the student, their capabilities and the areas with which they may be struggling.
I will attempt to gage their level and thus be able to offer lessons afterwards which will be tailored to their specific needs.
I recognise that receiving tuition can sometimes be quite daunting, and therefore I always try to put my students at ease, and will always do my best to approach subjects in the way that suits their learning style.
I love teaching, and tutoring has really been a highlight of my academic career. I have had some great experiences so far, and it has really helped me to solidify my wish to teach in my future career.
