English and Latin Tuition in Oxford

My name is Martin. I was born into a teaching family in which the house was often full of my mother's teaching colleagues. I am a lifelong resident of Oxford and have spent the majority of my career teaching locally.
In my spare time I write (a Latin course printed privately; a book about the Beatles, written as a ghost writer for my cousin; a history of my current school). I am currently writing a biography and a detective story.
Railways and old cars are also a great interest of mine and as a family we often visit heritage sites.
Before falling asleep, I like to read history or detective fiction.

Tutoring Approach

Every student is different and all need an individual approach. I like to work alongside learners and encourage at every stage of the process in order to build independence of thought. Lessons must be interesting and amusing. Confidence is vital to learning and I like to involve parents and carers in the learning. Some have sent the next generation to me and many families remain good friends years later.
Safeguarding is also a major priority; I keep my DBS certification up to date and complete all safety training as it is presented.
