Bath Tutor

I am a fully qualified teacher having completed my Postgraduate Certificate in Education (English and maths to GCSE) at Bath Spa University in 2011. My first degree was in history and hispanic studies from Birmingham University.

I have an enhanced CRB check (2016) with BANES schools and full DBS disclosure with Bath Welcome Refugees (2018), have completed several safe-guarding courses and am a full member of the Institute for Learning.

I will email copies of my academic and teaching certificates and my CRB/DBS clearance on request.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught numeracy/ maths (up to KS3), English/ literacy/ ESOL and citizenship to individuals and groups over the past seven years, ESOL & numeracy at the Workers' Educational Association in Bristol and GCSE English at Wiltshire College. I have experience of supporting students with learning difficulties although I am not a specialist.

When teaching GCSE/ iGCSE history and English I have come to see the value of using a wide range of learning materials, written, aural and visual with the aim of engaging students and I will expect students to complete activities we begin in the session. Similarly, with ESOL learners and I do expect such students to do plenty of reading and listening of English in their own time - otherwise they can expect to be nagged by me!

I will consider supporting students studying history at A level but the extent to which I can do this will depend on the units selected by the school/ student. With economics my teaching experience is mainly limited to macroeconomics and political economy although I can offer some support for the microeconomic papers.

As well as tutoring private students in economics, history, government & politics and English, I taught maths, English and study skills to primary and secondary age pupils at a supplementary school in east Bristol and this spring I tutored GCSE pupils attending Bath Tutorial College preparing for their exams in May. I currently run teaching sessions for refugees settling in Bath through Bath Welcomes Refugees.
