Hi, I am a Brazilian student and I have been living in Aberdeen for about 3 years. I have bachelor and Master's degree in Maths and currently, I am doing a PhD in Applied Mathematics at University of Aberdeen.
Since I started my undergraduate course I work giving private tutorials, from basic to advanced subjects in Mathematics. I also have experience working as teacher assistant in universities in Brasil and at Aberdeen University.
The majority of the students I had presented various levels of difficulties in learning mathematics, so the approach I like to use is first, understand their main needs and difficulties. Then, I provide relevant references and when necessary I like to create a tailored material for the student, where I try to explain the mathematical concepts in a simpler way, using day-life examples. During the tutorials, I think it is important solve several problems and motivate the critical thinking, which is essential to effectively learn mathematics.
As English is not my first language, I always add up 15 minutes after each hour of tutorial, in order to compensate this.
