Mandy

My name is Mandy and I am a fully qualified primary school teacher of 17+ years and a qualified NNEB of 30+ years.
My philosophy is that all children have the potential to achieve and make progress, regardless of present achievements or neurodiversity needs. Children need time and the opportunity to digest what has been taught and then to confidently consolidate that piece of knowledge through further explorations of that given concept.
I am now offering face to face tutoring in my teaching room, from my home.

Tutoring Experience

Over the span of my teaching career I have taught in mainly state schools, SEND schools and then finally teaching in an Independent SEMH school for one year and a term before I took the path to become a full-time tutor.
At the beginning of my teaching career I taught Reception for three years then covered PPA, in my then school; in the ARP, EYFS, KS1 and KS2 when I returned to school from maternity leave. This opened up a wealth of knowledge of the expectations for each year group with the core and foundation subjects; albeit a very steep learning curve for myself!
During my time at the private alternative provision school, I planned and created a curriculum for children in KS2 and KS3 who endured extra personal challenges of SEND and complex SEMH needs.

Tutoring Approach

Children develop at their own pace, and like us as adults, are strong in some subjects and need extra time in other subjects to understand concepts that are being taught. Children are unique individuals, so therefore their learning journey should be unique - at their level and at their pace. Sadly, this is not always achievable in school on a daily basis due to the content that is covered in class and the pace and scope of the curriculum to be taught. This pace and amount of content can have a detrimental impact on a child's progress where they can become overwhelmed and therefore disengage with learning due to becoming 'lost', which then adversely affects their confidence, self-worth and mental health.
My aim is to rekindle children's 'thirst for knowledge' where they enjoy learning, accept and know that it is ok to get things wrong, build their confidence to attempt set tasks and know that they will not be judged or ridiculed when they do not understand a concept or get it wrong; which may have happened in front of their peers in class. Private tuition is their 'safety' net' where they can grow and bloom to reach their academic potential. I teach children at their pace and can identify gaps in knowledge and plan lessons to ensure that their understanding is sound before moving on to the next concept.
I offer a bespoke service where your child's needs are met through set activities, fun, laughter and homework to consolidate the learning objective being taught during their lesson.
For your child to reach their full potential we will work in partnership - your child, parents/carers and myself - to ensure that needs and gaps in knowledge is addressed for their academic and social success.
I look forward to working with you!
