I am a secondary school geography teacher who is looking to help support students who may need some extra help accessing the geography curriculum. I currently teach KS3, KS4 and KS5 (11-18) Geography at an outstanding school in Richmond (just had our ofsted review last week) I achieved a 2:1 (69%) in my geography degree from the University of Exeter and a distinction with outstanding practice in my PGCE from the University of Warwick. I am extremely passionate about Geography and I hope to instil my love for the subject through my teaching practice.

Tutoring Experience

I have been working as a teacher for 3 years now and have tutored for just over a year both at a KS3, KS4 and KS5 level. I undertook my PGCE at the university of Warwick. Prior to working in education, I have a wide variety of experience working with young people. I volunteered at my school where I helped students with literacy and comprehension skills. I also was a peer mentor at University helping first year students transition from school to university. I have had excellent reviews from my other tutees I have tutored. I achieved the top mark at my school for my Geography A level due to my interest in the subject and this is needed in order for students to stay motivated. I am currently marking for the AQA exam board which will help students with exam practice. I teach both year 13 classes at my school and have a plethora of experience teaching students with different needs.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is one that is inherently student focused. The student is at the heart of my approach and by listening to their needs and through successful communication the student needs can be met and any misconceptions can be addressed. I am a very friendly, enthusiastic and positive teacher who is likeable with my students. I frequently challenge and stretch all pupils so each child can have the opportunity to reach their potential. I have strong geographical experience and have a rooted love for the subject. I will share the passion I have for the subject so they can see geography as a fun, interesting and inherently relevant subject which will ultimately leave to better outcomes with the tutee. My aim is to help with exam skills including key concepts and exam techniques that can be easily learnt and recalled in an exam. I will provide students with multiple practice exam questions and will provide comprehensive feedback or practice model answers.

In order for students to achieve their target grade in this subject, a positive atmosphere and relationship must be established in which the student can explore the topics they find really interesting; this is why I love Geography. This can open up a whole host of possible career options too.
