Personal Description:

I am a writer (fiction) with extensive experience of professional theatre and drama as a director, lecturer and teacher. I am married, currently live in the Teignmouth/Dawlish (Devon) area.

Tutoring Experience:

I qualified as a Teacher of English as a Second Language in August 2011 (Trinity College London Cert. TESOL) adding to my existing BA Hons English Literature (1st class) qualification. Since then I have taught English as a Second Language to a Kazakh family, to Hungarian and Iranian adults and have taken drama workshops at the Haslar Immigration Return Centre (multi-national), Gosport, UK. I am familiar with the American University (SAT) entrance exam and coach students for the English componenet. I have taught drama in Higher and Further Education since 1983, and State School Years 7 (KS1) upward since 1991. Additionally, I have experience of academic, commercial, medical and technical areas of English and am able to assist TEFL / TESOL learners from Beginner to Advanced stage. Across the summer of 2016 I taught at Torquay International School.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to get to know the student, her/his strengths and weaknesses and which approach to learning will suit the individual best. If a student requires extra coaching, often their confidence and self esteem need nurturing toward the belief that s/he can excel in the subject.

Prepared to travel further for lessons of 90 mins or more. Please note that 'as the crow flies' can mean up to 10 miles by road and further if travelling to the North side of the Exe Estuary (travel charges 25p per mile).

  • University of Reading (1994) - English Literature (Bachelors) (✔ On File)
Native Language: English (British)
