I'm an enthusiastic and passionate tutor. I care deeply about my subjects. I have a strong sense of responsibility toward my students and work hard to make sure they get the most out of our sessions.
I graduated with First-Class Honours in Philosophy from Glasgow University in June, 2014. I'm now undertaking an MA in political philosophy at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. I’m based in Spain, where I’ve spent several years teaching English and tutoring online, and working on languages: I speak Spanish and Catalan fluently (C1/C2 level in both).
I’m currently focused on online tuition using various face-to-face platforms. I’m happy to arrange an introduction session (about half an hour) for free before organising future sessions.
I've taught philosophy privately for the last 4 years, since graduating. I also spent one term teaching the AQA A-level syllabus to a full class at a sixth-form college, as well as checking essays and exams, and giving feedback.
In addition, I've taught English as a second language to students of all ages and backgrounds for over 3 years, in businesses, language centres, summer schools and one-to-one.
Finally, I have years of experience speaking Spanish and Catalan on a daily basis and a good knowledge of both languages, as well as Spanish and Catalan culture.
I generally take a conversational approach to tutoring. My goal is to create a meaningful dialogue in which the student feels comfortable expressing their own ideas. I hope to guide the student in the right direction by understanding and empathising with their own intuitions and trying to see things from their perspective. It seems much "learning" in the box-ticking world of today takes the form of memorisation and regurgitation. My aim is to give students a deeper insight into the subjects they study to help them learn.
