Personal Description:

I'm an enthusiastic and passionate tutor. I care deeply about my subjects and I have a strong sense of responsibility toward tutees and their development.

I graduated with First-Class Honours in Philosophy from Glasgow University in June, 2014. I'm now preparing to undertake a 2-year research degree (MPhilStud) at UCL starting September - Philosophy, again.

At A-level and sub-honours (undergraduate) I took courses in politics, sociology, English language/linguistics, and history, generally achieving As or firsts.

I'm willing to travel if necessary or use Skype. I'm really very flexible, and can work around you.

Tutoring Experience:

I have roughly a year's experience in teaching English as a foreign language and tutoring GCSEs, A-levels and IB. In addition, I have plenty of experience in peer-tutoring at degree level, helping fellow students with essays and assignments, as well as talking through topics and explaining key concepts.

Tutoring Approach:

I encourage tutees to entertain ideas with care and imagination. I believe genuinely grasping a concept involves finding a place for it within your wider understanding and experience of things; not simply learning to regurgitate the right words in the right order. To this end, I endeavour to help tutees feel free and confident in expressing their own ideas and formulating their own thoughts. It's my job to observe and empathise with the processes the tutee is going through and consider how best to throw light on the subject at hand. Quite often I try to make things informal and conversational, since this seems to me a very natural setting to learn. I acknowledge the different needs of different people, and I'm sensitive to the fact that people come from different backgrounds and experiences. First and foremost, my job is to base sessions around the specific needs and priorities of the tutee.
