IN PERSON AND ONLINE ENGLISH TUITION GCSE AND A LEVEL
I am a Cambridge University graduate and have 38 years' experience teaching English in High Schools, including being a Head of Department and I am also a GCSE English Examiner. I've been lucky enough in my career to teach a subject I feel passionately about and have had the satisfaction of seeing students who struggle gain the skills and confidence to exceed their target grades and get on with what they want to do in life.
As the mother of a daughter now at University, I have very recent understanding of the issues and pressures teenagers experience preparing for exams and doing homework from the perspective of a teacher and a mother. In my spare time I run a Book Club and enjoy theatre and travelling.

Tutoring Experience

Thirty eight years teaching KS3, GCSE and A Level in the state and private sector with a strong track record of exam success. I retired summer 2021 from teaching in a High School rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted, and also have very much enjoyed tutoring one to one for a number of years. I have a good knowledge of the syllabuses at GCSE and A Level.

I am a GCSE English Literature Examiner for AQA. My extensive and current experience means I have knowledge of skills across different examining boards.

Tutoring Approach

Whilst I have extensive experience of how the system works the reason I have kept teaching is because it all starts with the student and their responses to what they have to do and every student is different. It's important to establish trust so the first phase of tuition is praising the student for what they can do and identifying areas where they are struggling. Tuition is then targeted at getting the students to gain competence, and feel confidence, in these areas and the final phase is consolidating their knowledge and skills for the examination. As an examiner I am aware of the boxes that need to be ticked for specific grades but more importantly for me individual tuition gives me the chance to focus on how each individual learns the skills.

Here is some feedback from my students and parents
Rating: 5/5
" I cannot recommend Lindsay highly enough. Her calm, kind and patient manner was balm to my daughter, whose confidence in her ability had been diminished by anxiety. My daughter greatly appreciated her encouragement, and vast subject knowledge, allowing her to explore themes and context at a greater depth. At a time when my daughter was overwhelmed with Y11 schooling, it is testament to Lindsay that she always looked forward to Thursday evenings, and was noticeably happier afterwards."
