I have an Honours degree in Developmental Biology and Biochemistry from Aberdeen University and a Ph.D. from Glasgow University in Tumour Immunology. I also have a post graduate teaching qualification in secondary education in chemistry, biology and general science (distinction) from Strathclyde University and have taught in secondary schools, in further education and with the Open University since 1994.I also hold a PVG (Disclosure Scotland)
certificate.

Tutoring Experience

I have 29 years teaching experience, teaching adult students in further education college and secondary school pupils.
During this period I have taught Higher classes in Chemistry, Biology and Human Biology. I have also taught secondary school pupils the Curriculum for excellence Higher and National 3-5 courses in Chemistry and Biology.I have also taught these courses online and I have also tutored GCSE / iGCSE in Chemistry and Biology and A-level Biology (AQA , OCR and Edexel). Please note, I tutor the Scottish Higher Chemistry, but have no experience in teaching A-level Chemistry.

Tutoring Approach

I very much enjoy helping school pupils to overcome the worry and stress of not being able to cope with a subject taught in school. In my experience, this tends to occur more with Higher and National 5 chemistry than with biology, but this is not always the case. I tend to adopt a gentle, interactive approach with students, adapting my style of teaching to meet the needs of the student.
I normally prefer to tutor pupils on a face-to-face basis, but recently I have become used to tutoring pupils, from various parts of the UK and overseas, online using Zoom .
This has proved to be successful and, consequently, I now teach GCSE , iGCSE Chemistry and Biology and A-level Biology , as well as the Scottish HIgher and Nat-5 Biology and Chemistry online.
