I am a fully qualified, experienced and enthusiastic Classics teacher living in Wimbledon, London. I graduated from Newnham College, Cambridge, in 2013 with a First Class honours degree in Classics. I spent a year working as a Graduate Assistant teacher at an international school in Malaysia and then returned to the UK in 2014 to teach classics at an independent boarding school where I achieved a distinction in my PGCE with QTS in Classics from the University of Buckingham. For the last 4 years I have worked as Head of Classics in a busy non-selective state school in Shepherd's Bush teaching Latin, Greek and Classical Civilisation to pupils aged 11-18. My enthusiasm for guiding and supporting students at such crucial junctures in their education stems from my own excellent education, both at school and university, and a desire to share my knowledge and experience to ensure the greatest success for each of my students, whatever that might look like to them.
Tutoring Experience
I have tutored pupils in Latin, Greek and Classical Civilisation for 11+, 13+, GCSE and A Level for 8 years. Given my job, I have also worked extensively with secondary school pupils across key stages 3-5, in international, state and private schools. I have taught the OCR syllabus towards all major public exams in all three subjects. I have also mentored many students applying to Cambridge and Oxford, and can provide in-depth advice and guidance for the application process.
Tutoring Approach
I understand the rigour, focus and skills required to educate and encourage. I ensure every lesson I deliver is expressive, engaging, entertaining and upbeat. A good tutor needs to be a first rate academic and an effective and astute subject leader, able to bring organisation, motivation, enjoyment and excitement to students. Above all, I will strive to ensure my lessons are both informative and enjoyable and foster a love of learning in each of my students.
