I am a fully qualified maths teacher with 8 years experience in an outstanding school. As a result of my teaching experience and understanding of technology I am able to deliver bespoke outstanding tutoring both in person and online, where no quality is lost. Whether you are looking to fill the gaps in your knowledge, build confidence or stretch & challenge, I can design a programme to suit you.

I was hard working and motivated at school which I feel makes me a good role model. I also think that because I am lucky to be blessed with youthful looks despite being nearly 30, I am more relatable to students, making them more likely to listen to my advice and guidance.

Outside of education I like sports. I will watch pretty much any sport and I like to play basketball. I coached the team at the school I work at for three years and really enjoyed that. I am also interested in politics and love economic and physics, which are the other a-levels that I took.

Tutoring Experience

In terms of experience, prior to my degree I obtained a GCSE and A-level in maths, both with an A grade. My degree in economics also had a huge amount of maths in it, some of which was beyond degree level maths. Since qualifying as a maths teacher, I have taught all secondary year groups at a high achieving, highly competitive academy for the last 6 years. I have also run intervention groups with students to help them catch up. More recently, at the school, I have been running a bespoke catch-up tutoring programme with small groups of students who are behind for various reasons.

I am a respected member of staff at the school who is trusted with overseeing the work of new teachers, mentoring groups of key stage 4 students and organising the GCSE maths warmups. I am often praised for my excellent relationships with students which I feel is essential in teaching. I have also privately tutored a wide range of students one to one outside of teaching.

Tutoring Approach

I would say that my approach is person centred and holistic with an awareness of mental wellbeing. As a result of my access to a huge amount of resources and expertise I am able to easily adapt the content and structure of the session to suit each young person’s needs. For example, some students find going over old content helpful, if say they struggle with recall. Whereas other students, may prefer to go over content that is coming up in future lessons. If they struggle with confidence, this can make the material in the lessons feel more familiar which can help with engagement in whole class lessons.

When I say my approach is holistic, I mean that it goes beyond the one-hour session they have with me. Often students will also need to change their behaviour outside of tutoring in order to make the progress they want to make, and I will motivate them to do this.

In terms of wellbeing, I feel this is essential to consider when tutoring maths. Maths anxiety can be caused by a wide range of experiences and can be completely debilitating both in class and beyond. I have worked with a number of students who suffer from maths anxiety, and I have been able to help them feel happier and more confident when doing maths. For some students this can be a major contributing factor to their struggles with maths and helping them to overcome this can make a massive difference.
