Received a first-class honours in Economic and Social History at Aberystwyth University and was awarded the Robert Harrison prize for 'finalist with best performance in American History'. I hold a distinction certificate with the TEFL Academy, have mainly worked in people-oriented capacities and am inclined to empowering others through mentorship and training. As a student supporter at UWE Christian union, I helped cast the vision in coordinating events on campus and asking ethical questions about Christianity. I led seminars to challenge students philosophically from all and no faith backgrounds As International Secretary for the Christian Union (2015-16) I organized and delegated work to my assistants a weekly event called the Globe Café. I enjoy writing and performing spoken word poetry because it is an opportunity to address polemic issues in a creative way.
Abroad, I have trained and instructed students aged 18-25 in understanding the cultural and linguistic elements of the English language. In the UK I have taught international students from Greece, Italy and China with Language Study Centres ltd. and was a phonics teacher for children aged 3-4 years, teaching them how to read and write from the ground up in an intensive summer programme. By the end of the course, all students apart from one were equipped to move onto the next level demonstrating my abilities to gear others towards goals within a specific timeframe and standard. Having been a full-time student at university recently, I understand that students need tutors who are sympathetic, yet firm in order to reach their full potential.
I seek to provide a tailored service to suit the tutee's stage of progress and preferred learning style. The first lesson will be a thorough assessment of the student, in which my main objective will be to consider their current level and to ascertain what pace we have to go to obtain the desired grade. I will also look at their exam board and thus plan future lessons accordingly. To keep the students interested and working at a high capacity, I choose to break up the lesson with small and longer exercises. This ensures that they don't get too bored.
