Online Maths Lessons

With several years experience as Head of Maths at a successful independent school in the West Midlands, and an A-level Examiner with several years tutoring experience, I am fully up-to-date with the changes in maths curriculum both at A-level and GCSE. I have experience of teaching both in the state and independent sector where i have taken part in inspections judged to be "Outstanding" by OFSTED and "Excellent" by the Independent Schools Inspectorate - the highest grade awarded by both bodies.

Qualifications: BSc (Hons) in Physics from the University of Sheffield, MSc in Information Technology from Aston University, PGCE in Maths Education from the University of Warwick, MA (Distinction) in Educational Innovation with Specialism in Mathematics from the University of Warwick.

Tutoring Experience

As an experienced tutor with in excess of 7000 hours taught, I have a professional, yet friendly and approachable manner and have been tutoring for several years. For A-level my main experience has been with Edexcel, where I also serve as an Examiner. During my time tutoring I have worked with students from many award winning schools including: Concord College, Fettes College, Stowe School, Shrewsbury School, Whitgift, The King's School Canterbury, St. Swithun's School Winchester, Wycombe Abbey, King Edwards's School Edgbaston, King Edward's High School for Girls, Denstone College, St Helen's School, St. Dunstan's College, City of London Freemen's School, Loughborough High School for Girls and many more. I also currently tutor students internationally through Zoom. During this time i have taught from KS2 all the way through to GCSE and A2-Maths/Further Maths and I have a proven track record of raising student attainment. My students regularly go on to achieve Grade 9 at GCSE and A/A* at A-level maths and further maths. Former tutees have secured places at Oxbridge, LSE, UCL, Imperial, Durham and many other leading Russell Group universities, studying medicine, engineering, astrophysics, science and maths. Other tutees have secured apprenticeships with the big 4 accountancy firms, leading technology companies and officer training programmes in the armed services.

Demand for my services has been consistently high. Having just seen the most recent cohort successfully through their exams, I now have a limited number of spaces for the next academic year. My A-level results for 2023 were excellent, seeing students continue to achieve A/A* in A-level maths and A* in further maths. Students in the 2023 cohort are off to Kings College London, UCL, Warwick, Birmingham, studying medicine, theoretical physics, finance and much more.

As an additional option to consider, I do also offer a group programme for Years 11, 12 and 13. These programmes have 2 lessons a week taking place on a Monday and a Thursday and have access to an online portal with recordings of all previous lessons. The cost for this group option is £70 per week. (In recent years a number of students have chosen this option and supplemented it with additional 1:1 lessons which are available at £80 for members of the group programmes).

Tutoring Approach

I very much enjoy seeing students grow in their competence as mathematicians and come to have a real enjoyment of the subject. I seek to identify common misconceptions and ensure that students have a solid foundation on which to build. It is quite common for my students to experience a transformation in how they feel about their own abilities in maths and they frequently go on to be amongst the highest achievers in their respective cohorts.
