I have a first class Joint Honours degree from the University of Oxford in Ancient and Modern History. I attended Haberdashers' Aske's School for Girls and was a scholarship student. I believe that my academic achievements would not have been possible without the care I received from my own English tutor, and so I aim to be that person for my students.
I take on a select number of students and specialise in teaching Humanities at all levels. Many of my students say their teachers often ask then whether they have a private tutor shortly after we start classes as they see a distinct improvement in the student's quality of work and confidence.
My prices for A-Level are higher to reflect the extra help I provide students. This includes Oxbridge preparation for students that wish to apply for Oxford and Cambridge as well as help with personal statements and UCAS applications.
My teaching method is conversational and based on asking questions to the student. From their answers, I often continue asking questions so they clarify and refine the points they make. I do not believe telling the student the answer allows them to develop critical and analytic skills necessary needed when studying the Humanities. I also set past papers so the student is accustomed to the structure and demands of the exam they will sit.
My focuses are: promoting independent thinking, a fluent, strong writing style, confidence and enthusiasm for the subjects I teach
