Specialist English Tutor | Entrance Exams (11+, 13+, 16+), GCSE & Scholarships | Expert Support for International, Home-Educated & Non-Mainstream Learners
I am a dedicated English specialist with 13 years of teaching experience and a degree from the University of Bristol. I currently teach secondary-level English in Hertfordshire and have worked in a wide range of educational settings, including teaching English as a Foreign Language to both children and adults in the UK and abroad.
I offer expert tutoring for 11+, 13+, and 16+ entrance exams, including interview coaching and scholarship-level English preparation. I have successfully helped students gain places at leading UK independent schools such as Westminster School, Eton College, Brighton College, Wycombe Abbey, and Charterhouse. Several of my students have become King’s Scholars at Eton and Westminster after excelling in the Westminster Challenge and other highly competitive assessments.
One parent recently shared:
“We are thrilled to inform you that (our child) got selected in the Challenge exam and is going to become one of the King's Scholars at Westminster School… Thanks for all your guidance and support for helping improve and get their English to the level required.”
I am fully familiar with all major GCSE English exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC, and CIE (Cambridge International) - making my tuition particularly suitable for international students and those following varied curricula.
I also offer daytime availability to accommodate learners in different time zones and work extensively with home-educated students, students who cannot attend mainstream education, and those supported within targeted provision. I create a supportive, flexible learning environment tailored to each student’s individual needs.
Having lived and taught in France - including at Lycée Saint Sernin in Toulouse, I understand the unique needs of international students and am well-equipped to support learners navigating UK based qualifications from abroad.
In addition, I specialise in phonics and early academic development, helping younger learners build a strong literacy foundation. My teaching style is both academically rigorous and nurturing, helping each student gain confidence and reach their full potential.
I have significant expertise in preparing students for entrance examinations and interviews for some of the most prestigious schools in the UK, including Brighton College, Concord College, Wycombe Abbey, Westminster School, and Charterhouse. I currently run classes to prepare students for the CIE examination at Eton College and have extensive experience with the UKiset and ISEB common assessments. My current work also includes preparation for the Westminster Challenge paper.
My work involves supporting students from primary level through to sixth form. For overseas families, I provide comprehensive preparation for English entrance exams and interviews. This includes mock interviews, detailed feedback, and bespoke reports for families upon request.
My approach is built around a detailed evaluation of each student’s current proficiency, helping families understand strengths and areas for improvement.
To accommodate a wide range of schedules, I offer early morning and daytime sessions. My teaching philosophy is rooted in creating engaging, intellectually stimulating lessons that inspire students to achieve their full potential.
For further details, I invite you to read feedback from other customers.
I prioritise ensuring students have a strong grasp of the core skills required to meet examination board standards at any level.
I tailor my teaching methods to the unique needs of each learner, whether they require additional support or are seeking further academic challenges. Lessons are available in both face-to-face and online formats, with online sessions consistently delivering excellent results.
