My name is Laura Removed
I'm a recent sixth form graduate. In 2022, I achieved a triple Distinction star for my Media course, the highest grade achievable. In 2020 I was awarded my GCSE grades, where I achieved two As for my English language and literature grades. I am an avid reader and lover of fiction, which contributes to both my english and media knowledge. I've written and perfected my own scripts and poetry, and I'm currently working on the first instalment in my novel series. Despite not taking english to the A-Level stage, I did take Film Studies, an essay based course where films are the topic of analysis instead poetry or Shakespeare plays. However, this course only broadened and stretched my analytical brain, keeping my critical skills sharp and widening my angles and approaches to creative work. I am well-versed in everything from sentence structures to formulating concise contextual responses, from creative writing to the word-by-word analysis of poems, plays, short stories and more, making me a perfect tutor for the age ranges I've listed.
In terms of Media, which is marked in a coursework basis, I achieved Distinctions for almost all of my units. I am well-versed in the pre-production, production and post-production stages of a media product, from audio-visual preparations to comic and print projects.
In terms of experience, I tutored both my little siblings in English Language and Literature, helping my little sister achieve an A* in both subjects at GCSE Level. I have small amounts of tutoring experience outside of my home and school, aiding little siblings of friends as I was always recommended to help.
As a learner and a tutor, one thing I value above all else is clarity. To some children and teens, the words coming from their teachers' mouths may sound like gibberish, or some do understand but are unable to apply what is being taught to them through unclear instructions. I believe one-on-one tutoring alleviates this, through a personalised approach that fits the child's needs. This is my approach; picking apart what confuses or stunts a child and reiterating it in a way they understand, then perfecting this skill through practice. I feel like it is important to be clear and concise so a student can fully grasp what is being taught to them, which is why my approach includes effective communication and attention to detail. For example, if I notice a student keeps failing to apply the techniques they are being taught, I will tailor a unique way of remembering for them, or ask them what they feel is missing from their work.
