Hi there, I’m Lara.
Communication is what drives me and helping others to fulfill their potential is always a joy. Having been working as a classroom teacher of English and Drama for 14 years I understand the difficulties some students face trying to achieve their best; classes are frequently large and teachers struggle with a range of limitations as well as demands on their time. If your child would benefit from friendly, empathetic tuition on a 1-1 basis, than don’t hesitate to get in touch. Creating resources differentiated for your child’s specific needs is at the heart of what I do.
I have been teaching for fourteen years in a range of outstanding and challenging schools. I've got up to date experience working as an exam marker for GCSE English Literature and Language so am in tune with the expectations of the exam board. I have also spent some time working as an English intervention teacher with a specific focus on aiming to raise academic achievement from Year 7 - Year 11. I have experience with several exam boards including Edexcel and AQA. I frequently encounter students with learning needs, most frequently Dyslexia, and have developed strategies to help support them. Most children who fall behind or who lack confidence benefit from one-to-one tuition. Years spent in outstanding schools means I have also had the opportunity to develop resources to ensure that those working at the top end are sufficiently stretched. I have also coached children to prepare for school exam entry and the 11+ as well as GCSE English and Theatre Studies A-Level. In addition to teaching inside school I have worked in the theatre teaching and directing young people from 7-18 and have coached students in preparation for Drama school entry.
Having been working as a classroom teacher of English and Drama for 14 years I understand the difficulties many students face trying to achieve their potential; classes are frequently too large and teachers struggle with a range of limitations as well as demands on their time. Creating resources differentiated for your child’s specific needs is at the heart of what I do. Before beginning a programme I like to meet with my students first so a clear assessment can be made and specific resources located or created. This is usually a short session which you will not be charged for.
