A good sense of humour and a passion for mathematics. Qualified maths teacher with over 6 years experience, teaching across mainstream, SEN and alternative provisions.
For online tutoring, I use effective digital technology to make my demonstrations whilst teaching effective and clear for the students to see.
Working with hundreds of students, primarily from Year 7 to Year 13 across mainstream and SEN, I specialise in Mathematics KS3 and GCSE, being the lead of maths curriculums in some of the schools and provisions I have worked, particularly involving Functional Skills and Entry Level, I have supported students in classroom settings, small groups and 1:1's, and have co-developed curriculums and resources that help make maths more fun and most importantly, accessible, to all students.
Though I decided to switch from being a full time teacher, to full time Electrical Engineer as I wanted a new challenge, I remain passionate about maths and teaching, continuing to tutor and produce maths videos on my YT channel.
A random fact about me, I have also taught in China, teaching English as a Foreign Language, improving the students vocabulary and improving their ability to be more fluent in speaking English. Discussing mathematics with the higher ability English speaking students, demonstrating how maths is fantastic as it is a universal language in itself!
Your confidence in the subject is an important aspect and is something we'd try and build on and increase in our sessions, as the more confident you are, the more positive you'll feel with the content which can help retain knowledge.
We would begin by trying out a few different topics and questions to find out your level, your potential and your working ability and style. We'd discuss as we go along what you are struggling with, what you'd like to improve on, your strengths and your goals.
Another important aspect of maths though, is knowing how to do something in more ways than one. Something I've come across over the past few years, is students and people not being able to complete questions as they do not understand how a method works. I aim to show a few different methods when I can within the topics and find which one you prefer to work with, showing that the way a teacher has shown you, and will only show you may not be the only, nor easiest way of doing it.
