I am a history graduate and fully qualified teacher and examiner with 20 years experience teaching and 25 years of tutoring. I believe in helping students gain confidence in their own abilities and develop the skills necessary to succeed. I am approachable with experience in both subject knowledge, skills and exam techniques. I am currently studying an MA at UCL in SPLD dyslexia and am an experienced SEN teacher. I am very empathetic to the learning process and am therefore able to adapt to all my students needs and fully understand the process not just from teacher training but from recent personal experience. I am able to tutor online or in person and I am willing to travel to clients homes with fees being dependent on distance and location.
20 years of experience teaching in both independent and state schools. Examiner for AQA and Edexcel as well as many years experience teaching GCSE, AS and A Level History with excellent results. I am training as a specialist dyslexia teacher and can support pupils with literacy and numeracy and phonics difficulties as well as SEN (ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, SEMH) as I have significant experience in alternative and SEN provisions teaching English, Maths and humanities at Entry Level, GCSE and Functional Skills. Primary School age group in all subjects with a main focus on English and Maths and phonics/reading. I also have considerable experience in tutoring 7+ and 11+ entrance examinations and I work with students revising for GCSE, AS and A level coursework and examinations. My results for both GCSE, AS and A level examinations as well as entrance exam results are excellent. I have also taught students full curriculum on TV/film sets and students who are being educated full time outside of school. This varied group and one to one experience makes me uniquely qualified to bring the best out in all my students.
I believe in one to one support that focuses on the specific areas of learning and skills development required by the individual. It is important to create an excellent working relationship with the student as their learning can often be directly linked with whether they enjoy working with the teacher as well as their interest in the subject. As a tutor it is my role to be mentor and inspiration to my students. It is important to engender a desire to learn and a genuine belief that they can achieve.
All my tutoring is based on an discussion and assessment of aims and goals as well as the level of current attainment of each individual. I will then create a programme of learning that will both engage the student and help them to achieve their aims. Exam preparation includes practice questions, evaluation of areas of weakness and success, continuous assessment and interactive learning and revision. I believe in self evaluation, continuous feedback and effective communication with parents to ensure an ongoing process that will make the most out of the tutoring process.
