I am a Physics graduate and have a Doctorate in Quantum Mechanics. I am a Decision Analyst and Risk Management professional. This is where maths and structured logic brings solutions to real-world problems. Much of my professional work involves coaching business teams, but recently, this has seen me coaching my own children through the SQA exam system. Experience in industry enables me to explain the principles of maths and physics from a perspective that may not be available in the classroom.
I will work diligently with my tutees to ensure each individual reaches his/her highest attainment. I live in Inverurie, work from home and am available for coaching in and around the local area.
I coach Mathematics and Physics at SQA National 5 and Higher levels. I support the development of junior chess in North East Scotland and coach chess to primary and secondary students at one of the premier schools in Aberdeen. In business, I have prepared and delivered numerous technical training programmes and one-off presentations and lectures.
Good coaching is more than just knowledge; it’s about getting information across in a way that is understandable and compelling. Importantly, there are skills to be learned in exam technique and practice of exam questions will improve the outcome.
If you are looking for a tutor for your child, it is better to engage one earlier rather than later, perhaps on a fortnightly basis with a 1-hour session tracking the school curriculum.
More frequently, tutors are engaged only after prelim results are announced, where an issue unexpectedly comes to light and time becomes of the essence. That puts more pressure on the exam candidates.
I provide one-to-one coaching at the student's home, or alternatively, the same coaching sessions can be provided to small groups (typically 2 to 4 students) at a mutually convenient location. These small group sessions are subject to discounted rates.
