I am a passionate and enthusiastic English Teacher fully qualified at Secondary School level, with teaching experience of ages 11-18. I studied my English Literature degree at Cardiff University before completing my PGCE teacher training at Cardiff Metropolitan University. For the last fourteen years, I have worked in three comprehensive schools in both England and Wales. I pride myself on achieving high results with my students and developing in them a love for Language and Literature. In my spare time, I love walking in the countryside with my family and two Labradors as well as listening to music and reading as often as I can.
I have 14 years' experience as an English teacher, teaching a range of abilities from ages 11-18 English, with knowledge and experience of the WJEC, AQA, OCR, IGCSE and Edexcel specifications. I have also been an examiner for Edexcel for four years. I have been Second in Department at my current school for four years with responsibility for planning and implementing the KS3 and KS5 curriculum. I have a consistent track record of excellent results with all of my KS3, GCSE and A-Level classes. High subject knowledge and a passion for the subject of English mean an ability to tutor with confidence and enthusiasm. I have had excellent results and positive feedback with the tutees I have had in the past.
As an experienced teacher, I draw on my knowledge of how children learn, as well as the range of resources available to me, to foster and develop the skills needed in my students. I have a strong belief in modelling which involves showing students how to think through answers, as well as showing them examples of top quality responses, before they practise their own. This has proven to be highly successful at KS3 as well as helping students achieve top results at GCSE and A-Level.
In addition, I have a huge bank of resources which I have collected and developed over the last 14 years which I can use with my tutees to develop their knowledge and skills.
Finally, humour and respect are at the pinnacle of my approach with young people. I know how to engage with students so they feel confident and relaxed when learning and developing their skills.
*I prefer to work from home but I am willing to travel if the distance is not too far.
*In the current climate, I am happy to tutor via Google classroom, Skype or Zoom and I can help assist students in catching up any learning missed during the 2020 school closures.
