Welcome! I am second in charge of History, Geography and R.E. in a strong Humanities faculty. I am a teacher of humanities, specialising in history, based in the West Midlands with a passion for my subjects and for the teaching and learning of young people.
I am currently teaching GCSE History, R.E. and KS3 History and R.E. within a secondary Academy, to students aged 11-16. I have a Modern History Masters and a 2.1 Ancient History degree from the University of Birmingham and I have been teaching for the past 3 years, qualified from the University of Worcester in 2015.
If you are looking for assistance with exams, exam technique, subject content or studying in general, I can help. I have a passion for History and take great pride in providing an excellent education to all of my students, seeing it as crucial to success in their later careers.
I have a broad range of experience working with under achieving students, as well as challenging and stretching high achieving students. I also have a passion for my subjects which comes across in my sessions with young people. I am currently a secondary Humanities teacher within a secondary school on the outskirts of Birmingham.
Before my teaching career, I spent some time working in a secondary school in Worcester as a "Learning Mentor" - tailoring one to one sessions for that student's needs in a range of subject areas including English, Maths and History, as well as teaching smaller groups.
In my teaching career thus far I have taught a wide age range from 11-16 years, and specialise in teaching troubled students, those lacking confidence, as well as challenging and pushing very bright pupils.
I am also an examiner for a national exam board for the past 2 years. I find marking the new GCSE spec informs my planning, teaching and learning and maximises the grades my students achieve.
My students will benefit from a relaxed yet challenging atmosphere with high expectations from student and tutor. We will have an informal and relaxed "chat" initially, to identify key needs and wishes of the tuttee. This is vital in ascertaining goals as well as seeing how we get on professionally - in my experience I have found it vital that any young student needs to feel comfortable and at ease with their educator, to achieve maximum results.
After this, we can go through goals of the tuttee as well as what they enjoy, don't enjoy, different tasks, techniques and resources that they feel "work" for them. From this, I will tailor make a programme of sessions
Tailor-made support and sessions can include:
Subject tuition/support - KS3 and KS4 History and R.E.
Revision & learning support –study/process skills, revision programmes and techniques, essay-writing skills, question techniques for answering GCSE based questions.
