I am currently an English teacher at one of the top ten independent schools in the country, and the Independent Boy's School of the Year 2020. I am originally from the West Midlands, born and raised in a small mining town. I made the leap to move to London in 2014, where I live with my beloved cat and dog. Outside of teaching, I study languages including Hungarian, Hebrew and Greek, and work on my creative projects including ceramics and crochet.
I began my teaching career later in 2016 after a successful career as an academic and research fellow, and several years in the third sector working for national charities in policy, development and international campaigns. My wealth of experience makes me a highly successful teacher both academically and pastorally.
After a long academic career at a Russell Group University and time as a research fellow, I wanted to apply my academic skills in a more practical arena and decided to move into the third sector. During my time in this field, I led on educational activities which included training local people in Greek towns how to deliver education programmes to refugee children - many of whom had PTSD and were unaccompanied. I have also led and managed national and international campaigns on behalf of underrepresented individuals to create change.
The thread that ran through my career was always education and teaching, and in 2016 I made the leap to train to teach. After nearly 6 years in education, I trained to teach in one of the best training schools in the midlands, learning from some of the best practitioners in the field.
After qualifiying in 2017, I moved back to london to work in a comprehensive school in Bromley as an English teacher. During my time at this school, I worked as the Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead for the whole school, which allowed me to utilise my prior experience. Following this, I became the second in department, leading on KS4 and GCSE in English. This role developed my passion for pedagogy, leading me to be enrolled onto the SSAT Leadership Legacy Programme where I have conducted a yearlong research project into pedagogical approaches to engaging boys in education. During this time I have also worked as an examiner for AQA, making me very well placed to support with exam practice and preparation at GCSE level.
In 2020, I moved into the independent schools sector where I teach iGCSE English and A Level English. I am also the EPQ lead in English, and work on various community projects as a Community Liaison Teacher.
