PhD Graduate - Specialist Chemistry Tutor (all ages and abilities) and Science and Maths (GCSE).

I have been a private tutor for over 6 years (2000+ hours) and I have an advanced knowledge in tutoring UK A-level exam boards (OCR, Edexcel, AQA etc.), IB qualifications, AP qualifications and undergraduate/postgraduate studies.

I have a PhD from Imperial College London in Synthetic Organic Chemistry and have a Masters degree in Natural Sciences from University College London, specialising in Organic Chemistry and Pharmacology, for which I was awarded First Class Honours (80%). For A-level I studied Maths (A), Further Maths (A), Chemistry (A), Physics (A) and Biology (A).

I have been involved with tutorials at University College London and Imperial College London, helping teach the problem classes for First and Second year students. I am comfortable with children, young adults and adults of all ages. Having worked at a local leisure centre for over 5 years (in both Children's Activities and Lifeguarding roles), I have a wealth of experience in teaching and personal skills.

Tutoring Experience

For some representative examples of my experience, please see below.

Isabel - AP Chemistry (American system) - Scored a 4 overall.

Pooyan - Open University - Drug Design and Synthesis - Raised his module assignment scores from an average of 54% to 92%.

Gary - Experimental Therapeutics MSc Oxford University - Helped coach Gary towards winning a place on the Masters course at Oxford University from a background in law with no previous scientific knowledge.

"Karim is an excellent tutor. He explains things clearly, in an easy to understand way. He has been helpful between tutoring sessions offering advice. I would highly recommend him..." Emma (A-Level Chemistry OCR), May 2018

"We decided to try the Skype option and it has been very successful. Karim is very flexible. My son has found him approachable, friendly and very knowledgeable. I would certainly recommend him." Jane (AP Chemistry), December 2017

"Karim has been a pleasure to deal with. Sessions have been very focused and valuable and we would recommend him highly." Yvonne (GCSE Chemistry and Biology), December 2017

Tutoring Approach

I feel the student must work hard during sessions and nothing will come easy. However, it is with this attitude, the student will succeed and get the most out of the time he/she spends. I aim to encourage the student as much as possible during the sessions, and explain fully any sections that remain unclear.

I make myself available at all times of the day for communication and any short questions the student may have.
