I am a specialist teacher of English to speakers of other languages and a native English speaker. I gained my CELTA (Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Adults) qualification in 2015. I have experience teaching English in summer schools and as a private tutor. I can help you improve your spoken and written English; increasing your job opportunities and your ability to communicate socially and professionally.
I am enthusiastic about education and languages. I was a school librarian for more than 20 years , so I am also used to working with teenagers. I have a degree in German and Russian, and have worked in Germany as a translator. I also give talks and presentations on behalf of two development charities.
I have been working as a self-employed one-ton-one English tutor since 2016. My students have come from China, France, Poland, Sweden, Austria, the Czech Republic, India and Pakistan. Their English levels have varied from elementary to advanced. Some students have just a few lessons over a short period of time, others have lessons for much longer periods.
During the summer months I have worked in language schools. In July 2016 I taught in an intensive two week summer school for teenagers from Italy and Greece. Throughout August 2016 I was a temporary teacher at an English Language School in Manchester, where the students were adults from a great variety of countries. In summer 2017 I taught at the same two schools again. In summer 2018 I worked at Education First 10 weeks, teaching a wide variety of students, levels and topics.
When preparing lessons, I am careful to take my students' personal needs into account. My first lesson with a student will establish their level of English. I discuss their needs with them; how they use English and in what ways they wish to improve their English. I then plan what to cover in the first few lessons, although this can of course be adapted as lessons proceed.
