I am 45, with two young girls. With extensive experience of university admissions and entry requirements (including Oxbridge) and experience of the major independent schools' teaching requirements, I love tutoring privately and over the years have helped many GCSE and A Level students achieve top grades, get into their chosen University (including several Oxbridge), or pass their degree. I specialise in working with students from independent schools, international schools and also those looking for a more individual approach. I work in a senior capacity for an examination board and am highly experienced teacher also, having taught in both the private and state sector for all ages from 11-18 and in Higher Education as a University Lecturer. Before teaching, I worked as both a journalist (BBC) and within the music industry (Sony BMG Music) and therefore have professional English and Music experience as well as academic experience to offer students. I have examined for Edexcel and OCR A Level English Literature and A Level and BTEC Music. I have contributed to publications by Pearson and have also worked as an A Level examiner and author for the exam board OCR. As part of my research as a lecturer, I have had work published internationally and presented at conferences. My own exam results are exemplary and I have achieved the best results for all the qualifications I hold, including prizes for undergraduate and postgraduate achievement, and so I lead by example.
I have been teaching for the past 20+ years and have and continue to teach all the main examination board syllabuses for GCSE, A Level, iGCSE and IB in English, English Literature and Music, I have also lectured and supervised research at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. I continue to teach and design BA and Master’s programmes at University. I have had experience of teaching at leading independent schools, in Sixth Forms and at University. I have been a private tutor for the past 20 years and have experience teaching my subjects at all levels from Secondary through to Degree and Adult education. I have forged an excellent reputation in this time with many of my tutees contacting me through reputation and recommendation alone. My tutees have gone on to achieve higher than expected results in their examinations as a result of having additional help and I have references and feedback should you wish to confirm before committing. I have a very relaxed personal, yet rigorous academic style of teaching which ensures that you are taught in the way that best suits your personality, learning style and abilities but still adheres to the demands of the curriculum you have to follow. Although I now work for an examination board, I worked professionally at Sixth Form and Degree level for over 15 years, but I am fully trained and have extensive experience teaching at Secondary level also. I am confident and qualified to deliver in both subjects at all levels. I love teaching and have enjoyed private tutoring particularly as it allows me to help students achieve in a setting that's more tailored to the way they learn. We work together to build confidence and put learning in context first. Confident relaxed learners that can see how what they're learning is relevant to their own interests and ideas always get better results, without even realising it. Exams are also marked on flair, style and the ability to really understand a subject deeply and that's what we work on first.
