Hello, I'm Julia Jane, a London based Arts Educator and Lecturer. I specialise completely in History of Art and Art and Design. I tutor MA, BA and A-level students. In Art and Design I also teach Foundation and GCSE. Many students learn with me for their personal development in creativity and confidence.

I provide tuition at my quiet little oasis in the middle of Wandsworth Town, London. On occasion I travel to a student home. I hold stimulating sessions in prominent London art galleries and smaller, lesser known but equally important, independent art galleries.

My Fine Art students have gained places at Royal College of Art and Central Saint Martins. And my History of Art students have gone to study at Sussex, Bristol and Durham Universities.

I look forward to your enquiry and will be happy to answer your questions.

Tutoring Experience

Having been in education and training for many years, ten years ago I developed what has grown into a vibrant and busy arts education practice. I work with students on clarifying what is required by the assessment criteria We deepen knowledge and understanding of the arts and the art world, culminating in achieving great results.

Our sessions often takes place at art school shows, arts libraries, open artist studios and in art galleries — the best understanding being gained by engaging first hand with the art works and meeting artists in person.

Alongside this, I enjoy teaching Art & Design in sixth form colleges and lecturing in History of Art and Drawing at Morley College, London. I occassionaly talk, as guest Art Historian, to interested organisations in London.

For students who love the immediate and flexible online method, I use a professional conferencing platform to offer an enhanced learning experience — we can work upon your essay, shared onscreen together and I can record your tutorials and send them to you for recap and revision. It is really easy and really enjoyable. I enjoy online tutoring because it is flexible, fun. And can actually become quite personised to needs.

Please make a no obligation enquiry about my online tutoring.

Tutoring Approach

My approach develops independence in a learner. This builds self-belief and equips learners with the tools needed for future learning. Embracing all aspects of a subject brings it to life and improves outcomes. And tutoring often takes place in art galleries — the best understanding being gained by engaging first hand with the art works.

In an ideal world I advise a combination of tuition that is face-to-face, in the art gallery and online. However, it depends on circumstance and student preference.

There is no right or wrong way to learn — but it is certainly important to enjoy the experience and embrace the subject along the way to success.
