I am a highly experienced and passionate specialist Maths tutor, offering engaging and effective online tutoring for Neurodiverse children. My approach is tailored to each student's unique needs, creating a positive and inspiring learning environment.

With a successful 14-year career in tutoring, following years as a qualified primary teacher, I have a wealth of experience in both classroom and one-to-one settings. My expertise lies in making Maths accessible and enjoyable, especially for those who find it challenging.

As someone who is Neurodiverse myself, I deeply understand the challenges of growing up without having my needs understood or met. This personal experience, coupled with my journey as a parent advocating for a Neurodiverse child, gives me a profound empathy and insight into the unique needs and strengths of the children I tutor.

In my personal life, I am actively involved in creative pursuits. I enjoy singing in a local choir and engaging in various art and craft activities. These interests enrich my life and bring a unique, creative aspect to my teaching approach.

Tutoring Experience

During my career as a teacher/tutor spanning 20 years, I have worked in both the state and private sector and most recently I have worked as a supply teacher. I have worked with EYFS to year 6 children in a primary school setting as well as tutoring maths GCSE/IGCSE and adults. I have worked on supply placements in all years from EYFS to Sixth Form, mainstream and Special School settings.

As I have taught Maths from EYFS to GCSE/IGCSE I have a unique viewpoint in which, I have a deep understanding of how each topic builds cyclically upon itself, and I can identify missing knowledge or skills or misconceptions, fill those gaps and raise attainment.

I was Head of Maths, ICT and Gifted & Talented at a prep school. I have successfully prepared children for KS2 SATS, Entrance Exams, GCSE and IGCSE.

Before I re-qualified, in 2000, I worked as a Teaching Assistant with children with additional needs and tutored adults in basic skills. Previously, I worked in engineering as a technical author.

Tutoring Approach

Overall, a happy child learns better. I infuse humour into my lessons to help pupils relax and engage more effectively with their learning. With many years in pastoral roles, I am deeply committed to promoting a child's well-being above all else.
I empower students to believe in themselves and then use the knowledge and skills I have taught them. A child needs to be in a safe environment to learn, and allowing them to feel more in control over their learning increases their confidence and aspirations.

Over the years, I have experienced and used many different teaching and learning styles. I know that 'One size fits all' is not true. Each child is unique and needs to be treated as such. I constantly evaluate and adjust my methods to suit each child's needs, eschewing a rigid scheme of work in favour of a tailored approach.

I have mainly tutored children who are less conventionally academic, developing ways to support, scaffold, and empower them. Many have had combinations of Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, ADHD, or were on the Autistic Spectrum. I specialise in helping children who often fall through the cracks at school and need a kinder, more compassionate route to success.

My style is child-centred, encouraging students to take control of their own learning and become independent learners. I celebrate the children's work, which gives it real purpose, positively encourages them, and helps them reflect and take ownership of their learning.

Some children have been with me for a few months, needing a quick boost in their Maths skills, while others require a longer-term approach. I work closely with parents and schools to enhance their overall learning experience.

If you want to enable your child to gain more confidence in Maths, please contact me, and we can discuss how best to help them meet their potential.
