I am enthusiastic about mathematics and really enjoy teaching the subject.
I feel that everyone can do this subject, but some may need some help, and that everyone should have the opportunity to succeed. I work in a 'can do' environment. In particular, I am very good at increasing student's confidence in this subject.
I have a great deal of patience, I do not mind repeating myself. I believe in talking to students and teaching them and leaving them with work to do during the week. With this in mind, the student gets a whole hour of teaching. I am willing to travel further than the 5 miles specified, but this would incur an extra charge, by negotiation. I am willing to teach either at the student's own home or in my home.

Tutoring Experience

I have over 30 years experience of teaching students from the ages of 15 to 65. I also have many years experience of one-to-one tuition.
Broadly speaking, my privately tutored students usually increase their expected grade by at least 1 grade.
As an examiner for GCSE Mathematics, for many years, I get a real insight into teaching the subject and what is required in answering exam questions in order to maximise the marks available.
With lots of text books and electronic resources, I have everything that is needed for each student. I also tailor worksheets for an individual student.

Tutoring Approach

Each student is an individual. As such, there are no 'fixed' lessons. Each lesson is run according to the student's need at that time. It could be help with a topic previously learned, help with homework, or starting a new topic. Students are, within reason, able to tell me what topic they would like to do in the next lesson. Most importantly nearer to exam time is past exam papers as I think these are the best revision possible. I have lots of exam papers from the 2 largest exam boards easily to hand. This is not the easiest of subjects and I feel every student should be able to achieve the highest grade they possibly can, to this end I encourage and increase confidence.
