I teach English principally at secondary level - through key stage 3, onto key stage 4 and GCSE and then A level and university application level. I also prepare students for Common Entrance English examinations at 11, 12 and 13+.
I offer classes to adults wishing to improve their written skills in clear English - both on a one to one and in small groups.
I additionally teach drama, interview and audition skills, presentation and communication skills. I deliver lessons leading to LAMDA, TRINITY and NEW ERA accredited exams and also coach public speaking. Classes can be arranged for one to one teaching or teaching pairs or small groups. I teach from home in a designated teaching space. I do not teach students in their own homes except in exceptional circumstances.
I am also a writer of fiction, having published numerous short stories in the UK and internationally and two novels.
Currently, I have day time, evening and some weekend availability for tutoring.
I have many years of experience of teaching and tutoring students at secondary level and have achieved exemplary results with all calibre of students.(2019 results for both A level and GCSE were exceptionally good with all students gaining grades considerably beyond their expectations.)
I hold a very successful record of helping students find greater confidence in facing the challenges of the subject; in addition, my tutoring always aids students in achieving higher grades at GCSE and A level. I have also helped students preparing for Oxbridge entrance. I particularly enjoy encouraging and extending students' enjoyment and appreciation of language and literature and helping them to gain confidence in approaching their English studies. Often, it is simply a lack of exam technique that is preventing success.
I examined A level Literature for 5 years and have also worked extensively as an examiner of drama. I have worked with many students applying for drama school auditions. I have also worked with foreign students, helping their fluency and conversational ability.
In addition, I am a writer of fiction and have published many short stories nationally and internationally and am currently working on my third novel.
I have a friendly, informal yet structured approach to tutoring. Starting from an assessment of the student's current level, I draw up a study programme which has a strong focus on the student's essential needs. Every student is different, after all, and responds to different methods and techniques.
Students attend, on the whole, for one lesson a week for an entire academic year; but others come for revision sessions or last minute support before examinations or extended essay submissions. I am happy to teach on a lesson by lesson basis or for students to sign up for a half or full term.
Students enjoy their lessons with me - an essential component, I believe, towards progress and achieving a higher academic level and their personal best.
