Jonathan taught me for the 3 months leading up to my A level chemistry exams. He challenged me more than any other teacher had previously done and let me take the lead in deciding what to cover each lesson. He clearly knows the subject well, and he encouraged me to research around topics in order to give me a deeper understanding of the concept as a whole rather than just what was on the specification set out by the exam board. This was evidently very useful as by the end of my 3 months with him, I found that quite a few topics I used to think were impossible had become some of my favourites, and that he had given me a newfound confidence in my ability to answer difficult questions by working through them step by step instead of resorting to a mark scheme.

My daughter was struggling with Chemistry Alevel. We decided to get her some tuition sessions and liked Jonathan’s profile.
He is a god send my daughter likes his approach, enthusiasm & passion he has in every session-she is so excited and looks forward to his sessions.

We chose Jonathan based on the huge number of positive reviews on his profile. On the lead up to the session he was very pleasant to deal with, quick to respond and seemed very knowledgeable in his chosen tutoring fields and gave us hope that he could help my son improve on his GCSE science grades and maybe inspire him in the subjects a little more.

Unfortunately the session didn't go as we had hoped and we came to a mutual agreement at the end of the session that Jonathan's teaching style ,whilst obviously works for many ( I would say probably for more enthusiastic scientists) , was not suited to my son.

Jonathan came to the lesson with no teaching resources or lesson plan which is what my son and I would have both hoped for during a tutoring session. It seemed as if he expected my son to take the lead and provide his own resources and became unceasingly frustrated as the session went on when my son struggled to debate in the manner in which Jonathan would have liked or search for information Jonathan requested on the internet .

My son is a 15 year old teenage boy that does struggle to debate and talk online ( especially when he has only met someone for the first time) . Jonathan was evidently frustrated at his lack of debate and conversation and made my son feel quite inadequate by the end of the lesson. The lesson ended with Jonathan advising us both that tutoring was perhaps not the way forward for my son and he would be better off continuing to working independently. This was disheartening and also clearly upsetting for my son who only wanted some gentle encouragement and structured guidance on how to increase his marks . As a final comment Jonathan also swore on several occasions during the session which was not directed at my son but we did not think it was appropriate language to use during the session.

Sometimes it's simply due to a clash of styles… Thank you for your review. And I wish you all the best for the future.

To put it simply, Jonatahn is nothing short of amazing when it comes to tutoring. Chemistry that I have struggled with from 6th form - 1st year university was swiftly taught to me by Jonathan in the space of 2 weeks and taught to the highest standard. Jonathan has tutored my daughter Katie, a year 12 A-level student with chemistry to help prepare for her progression exam into year 13. She was at rock bottom with bad teaching and had completely lost her confidence. The weekly on line session with Jonathon gave her the confidence to start to believe that she was capable of continuing with her studies. Jonathon was patient and kind and offered more lessons a few weeks before her exam to prepare her. We are waiting the results but Katie feels confident and that’s thanks to Jonathan’s patience and hard work. It's one of best parts of the job showing highly capable students just how capable the are. Once that confidence is established we start to see more and more ability in understanding and in application.

We got in touch with Jonathan with approximately 6 weeks before our son's A levels as his mock Physics exam had resulted in a Grade D. Our son had really lost his way with studying and was slowly but surely was loosing confidence in his abilities. Jonathan took him under his wing and spent time going back to basics initially to build confidence and slowly but surely got our son to believe in his abilities once again. Jonathan has been working with my daughter A for 7 sessions now. She has never done well in maths at school and has hated it for years; she is autistic and dyslexic and very clever, but maths just has never been her thing.
Jonathan has managed to tap into ways of learning numeracy which interest, make sense to and work for A. Through his patience, curiosity and encouragement, A is now not afraid to try and fail when working with numbers, and has the confidence to try again as many times as necessary and succeed. She is learning strategies she can actually use and remember. It's clear as it ever could be as far as I'm concerned that the conventional prescriptive approach to teaching only reaches so many… and that's not enough.

Schools must address the hard reality that a significant number of students are not having their intellectual potential tapped into or even considered if indeed such student doesn't respond to the one dimensional approach to passing on knowledge.

But more importantly there's seems too little emphasis, if any, on encouraging students how to think. How to reason and discern or even consider an alternative approach to understanding an idea or cultivating an independent well thought out opinion. Especially if it goes against the general narrative.

And it's costing us. A lot.

A is a clear example of an immensely capable colourful character whose capacity for working with numbers … a skill that's utterly essential… Was never accordingly explored by those whom our expectation is to do such things.

However, schools failure has been our opportunity for success and it's been nothing but an absolute joy to see A really take ownership of her abilities and incorporating new (and time honoured) techniques to broaden her access to the world of numbers and make the whole effort of the experience a worth while one.

What this young lady is capable of, we (the educational community) , are hopeful just about to scratch the surface of… as it's clear she is potentially a tremendous talent in whatever she decides to lend herself to.

Jonathan is great with my daughter.
Although they only had a few lessons so can't comment on the progress made so far but she is happy with her lessons.

Finding the right pitch to teach is part of the process when time permits. So one must find the right frequency, if you will, to make the learning experience as appealing as it can be.

This is especially when working with such strong personalities like your daughter. Once the right channels of communication have been established I've no doubt the results will be dramatically different

As it's clear we are dealing with a tremendously talented individual who simply doesn't get maths at the moment… but not due to an I ate difficulty as such… im sure this is a purely linguistic issue so learning the basics as a spring board to higher level calculation is essential

My son was struggling with many aspects of Chemistry. Jonathan quickly assessed his ability and understood that is focus and interest is in other non-science subjects. He has tailored the sessions to cover the key areas and given him excellent tips on how to work efficiently. After just four sessions I can see a positive difference in my son's attitude to the subject which will hopefully be translated to an improvement in his GSCE grade.

Jonathan is larger than life itself. He first of all knows his onions when it comes to Maths. Nothing phases him. He approaches all problematic equations with a cool calmness that gives my 16 year old son Jack confidence. His ‘get down with the kids’ style is infectious and creates a lovely bond between tutor and student. I started to sit in on the lessons at first, to give Jack the confidence to change the pace of tutoring when applicable. But now I wouldn’t miss a session! Jonathan has helped my son with his preparation for Alevel physics and maths. My 15 year old is currently being tutored by Jonathan its early days but so far a very positive start. Jonathan has given my son a confidence boost in maths which was so needed in order for my him move forward in this subject. Jonathan has been positively motivating and encouraging for Azeem across the sciences which has instilled an invaluable confidence in him which we hope will carry him through his GCSE examinations. My son has had two lessons with Jonathan. There were a number of mistakes not corrected by Jonathan with my son’s homework which were marked by a math teacher at school. When I contacted Jonathan to let him know about this his respond was arrogant and rude. I would certainly not recommend this teacher.

Well I can’t please everybody… but I stand by the position that a child should not be working from 6am to 12am every day … we obviously have very different ideas on what is considered reasonable when educating minors. However thank you for you feed back…

I resat all of my AS level and came out with a B overall at A-level chemistry.Jonathan was a massive help with my resits as he really helped me understand the AS content. Jonathan tutored me in the area of physical chemistry for a period of four weeks prior to my second year university summer exams. I found both his style of teaching and approach to the material very refreshing. And he was able to communicate previously misunderstood ideas in a way I could understand. Not only do I feel that he was able to prepare me for the exam but has aided me in a wider understanding of more general underlying concepts of chemistry.

Having received exams results over the summer I i am pleased to say I did very well obtaining a much higher average mark than I received for January modules. I Showed particular improvement in physical chemistry (the area Jonathan tutored me in) going from 32% to 63%.
